Objectives For Resumes Knowledge Base
Summary vs Objective on Resumes and Cover Letters? I'm curious to hear from anybody in HR or who use to work in HR. What grabs your attention more. Somebody who uses a summary on their resumes or an objective on their resumes. And can a summary or an objective be used instead of a cover letter because someone told me that cover letters aren't really looked at with all the flood of job applications of people looking for work now. If that's true, should I write a Cover Letter for every job? or only when they ask?
How do I submit resumes to companies that may not be looking for employees at this time? I am trying to find a job an I know of a few buildings that have various kinds of customer service, inbound and outbound telemarketing jobs. Should I have a cover letter for each one? I just want to take some initiative versus trying to look through the want ads.
Resume Objectives: are they really necessary? I've just become unemployed, due to layoff, and I'm updating my resume. I've always thought that the Objective part was just a bunch of crap, to be honest. It's just one sentence that doesn't mean much of anything, and it seems like people [myself included] spend a ton of time trying to come up with something witty. My question is...is it really necessary? I mean, suppose I just left the Objective off of my resume...would I risk not being asked back for interviews because of it?

How does this sound for a resume objective? To apply a solid six-year education in anthropology, sociology, and psychology, along with volunteer experience with an organization that values passion, dedication and hard work. -------- I just received my Bachelor's degree in Anthropology. I want to get a job in a nonprofit organization or as a researcher. I am especially interested in cultural anthropology. I'd also like to change this into a Summary of Qualifications section, but don't know how I can go about doing that without sounding redundant. As of right now my resume is broken down as follows: Objective, Education, Work Experience, Volunteer Experience, Awards and Achievements, Additional Skills. I have six organizations listed under volunteer experience, so I want to imply that I have a strong passion for humanitarian work. Under which section can I put the research experience I did while in college? Should I include that at all? Or any major courses that would help in the field I would like to go into? I know this is a lot, but any suggestions for this objective statement would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going for a career change from marketing to being a police officer and I was wondering if anyone could suggest an objective sentence for my resume my old objective read: Seeking a marketing coordinator position within a competitive and changing environment that will provide challenge and offer the opportunity to acquire new skills. can I even use basically the same thing since my goals are still pretty much unchanged? I've had an objective like the one that you gave as an example while I was graduating and later job hunting. I was told by multiple recruiters and college career counselers that it needed to be more invloved like what I currently have. I jsut haven't been able to speak to any of them since deciding to get into law enforcement. Also my resume will be in the hands of a person tomorrow. I know it won't simply be scanned (this time at least)

Resume - Objectives? I'm making a resume to get a summer job, and I'm kind of stuck on objectives. I'm a university student who is getting a job this summer to fund my studies, and I was told to put that under objectives, but it sounds kind of tacky...but maybe that's just the way I'm phrasing it. Has anyone else heard of doing this, or should I just stick to the usual "to secure a job and obtain knowledge etc." kind of thing? Thanks!
