If I'm applying for a federal job, but feel I'm getting jerked around, who do I report it too? I've applied at over 50 different federal job listings, and it seems that every time I get into the final interviews and decisions, something or other comes up, and no one can give me answers to how or why I didn't qualify and/or get the job. I'm a veteran, which supposedly means I am getting preferential treatment in selection, and I qualify for these positions as they are listed, yet I never get anything but the run around... How do I complain, and who do I complain too?

FBI specially asks you questions before you even see their job listings. FAA and a few others require as well. chronic unemployment makes me very depressed. what to do? I have been unemployed since January 2008. I graduated in May 2008 with bachelor of science in mathematics. Never found any job since. I just don't hear back whenever I apply. No company ever responds. Went to psychiatrist and he put me on lexapro for depression and klonopin for anxiety. What jobs can an economics major do in the federal government? Hi. I'm graduating in about 6 months with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. I want to go ahead and get in as many applications for federal jobs as I can. I've gotten about 25 in now and I feel like I've hit a wall with what I am qualified for. I have applied for jobs as an Economist. I have also applied for several jobs as a Contract Specialist. I have found many others that say I qualify with an Economics degree, but I only have 1 accounting class, which is a big downer for most of the listings. What do I have to do to qualify to be an Economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics? I'm hoping someone will have some experience they can share with me. I will graduate with a degree in Economics in a year from now. I've been looking at job listings for Economists and it seems like the BLS is the biggest hirer or Economists. I've been checking out the requirements listed on the usajobs.gov website, but I read somewhere that a major qualifier for the jobs was passing an economics test and I read that they had a practice test out there. I can't find any other reference to this test or the practice test. Does anyone know if this really exists and if so, what kind of stuff is on the test. ex. would it deal more with labor markets, or would I have to worry about the money market, references or monopolies and consumer and producer surplus, FE-IS-LM curves, AD-SRAS-LRAS curves, etc.? what is the hiring process like? I plan on giving it as close to 6 months as possible, but I think I could start the process as early as 9 months. Is this too early for a federal job? Where can someone with a mental illness get a job? I suffer from depression and generalized anxiety. I have been putting off getting a job for years. I recently got fed up with my $20 a week allowance and want to start working like a normal person. Regular first time jobs aren't right for me. Being a cashier and maybe even working the floor at a department store are too much for me. I could do stocking, but businesses don't like to advertise that kind of job. Am I being unreasonable? Mother issue? My mother was a single parent has been unemployed for the past 10 or so years. My grandfather (father's father) helped her out financially as my father could not afford to pay child support, and I also contributed to the family, meaning I never had any money for myself. Throughout these years I would tell my mother that she really needed to get a job or at least go to school to get some training for something because people weren't going to be able to help her out financially forever, and she'd always tell me to leave her alone or give me some reason why she couldn't get a job which sometimes amounted to BS and sometimes was the truth. Shortly before I left for uni, which happened to be when the lease for our house was up, my grandfather gave my notice that he was only going to help her out for another few months, as all of us kids were moving into our own places and she was done raising us and he could no longer afford it anyway. She kept telling me she was going to get a job and moved into an apartment with her boyfriend, who is self employed and does not have steady work. Every time I went to visit her, or she came to visit me, it's cost me $100 because she didn't have any food or some utility was going to be turned off or something. A few months after starting school, I got a call in the middle of then night from her boyfriend telling me she had locked herself in the bedroom and was threatening to kill herself because they didn't have any money and he didn't have a job lined up in the near future. I sent her $800 of my GRANT MONEY that I was going to use to buy a laptop for school with and told her I could not give her any more money and she needed to get a job. Again she told me she was going to. That was over two years ago. She has actually done everything to do to not get a job. She has not finished her resume even though I started one for her. She watches soaps all day. She does not even look at job listings, and every time she and her boyfriend run out of money she becomes abusive towards him, drunk or sober, and occasionally threatens to kill herself. He recently called me today to tell me she was "doing it" again and when I talked to her she just yelled over the phone about how much she hates him and they have no money for food or rent. I'm still a student, I'm unemployed, and I've recently lost $10,000 in state funding and may lose the federal funding that covers my tuition before I graduate. I have a small amount of savings that I had put aside for "roommate from hell" issues, but have been having to dip into it to get through the summer as there are no summer jobs. Pima Medical Institute keeps requesting money....? I went to Pima Medical Institute for medical coding and billing, and I have had nothing but problems. When I first started attending, the financial aid person went through everything with me, and got me the funding for the payment of my tuition, books and fees. On the account paper work, it showed that my schooling (all together with taxes and fees included) was $8,900 and then I requested a stipend, which added an aditional $3000 to my tuition costs. Now at first right after I requested the stipend, I asked her everything was taken care of, and if she had all of my paperwork in order, and she said yes, I asked this several times and I always got a yes. But I had a few problems with her losing my paperwork or needing me to sign things that I had already signed. Then, when I graduated, I got the shaft majorly, because they had promised me lifetime job placement, and I did get put in an extern site that was hiring (even though my extern supervisor said I did an a+ job) and when I brought this up to the school staff and externship coordinators, they told me that it was "job placement ASSISTANCE" meaning that they werent obligated to get me a job, or even an interview, only to help me look for job listings.....So now I was stuck looking for a job in a horrible economy, and trying to pay student loans. Then shortly after I graduated, the financial aid person contacted me and told me that I hadnt paid all my tuition, I was confused because she had said it was completely taken care of 8 months ago. So I asked for an itemized statement and I couldnt really understand it, so it didnt help much. But she insisted that I owed the school $2000, so I filled out my FAFSA and she took the 2000 out to pay what was allegedly left of my tuition. Now it is almost a year later, and she has written me a letter, claiming that she needs to take money out of what is left of my pell grant to pay MORE tuition. Does this make any sense to anyone else? This school is really screwing me over in every way possible. She has already had me take out around 11,000 dollars in federal student aid, to pay tuition on an $8000 program. And I feel that they lied to me, and continue to do so. But I have no one to help me figure it out. I definitely cannot afford a lawyer, and I have tried all the schools staff for questions regarding all my issues, and they all shuffle me around or lie to me. What should I do? Ok answerer number three, your right, no sane person would believe that they could offer me job placement for life, but they did promise me, at enrollment, that they provided job placement services...which in their book consists of telling me what websites have job listings. I did read all my contracts and nonr of them said anything about continuing to pay for schooling that im not taking. The issue isnt the contracted amount, its about financial requests. Plus I keep in contact with my previous classmates from the same program, they have all had the same externship and paperwork problems, minus the extra monetary requests. oh and in my contract, it actually says "job placement" and goes on to describe what duties the externship coordinators would perform for me, including setting up interviews, and making sure that I got the externship site that I chose. And doesnt the parol evidence rule just make my case stronger. The monetary terms in my contract have the stated amount of tuition, meaning that its not legal for the school to continue to charge me for something that has already been paid for, and they cant make the tuition higher at a later date because I signed on a specific price.

Many tech companies chose to hire and keep greeN-card cariers over american citizens by publically placing the jobs available until they can renew the green card of the green card carrier meeting the federal requirements to give american citizens first. Many major tech companies will only recieve one application per person for any jobs in there company, this insures a light american application response to job listings. Will the usa ever crack down on this loop hole circus and look after american jobs for americans (10% + unemployment in the USA)

What does EDD do to verify the work search record, if anything? A little history: I'm currently on the FED-ED extension so I have to prove my work searches, which isn't a problem. I always did it and applied for every job I listed. I finally got a job offer on January 4th and I started two days ago. Before I started the job, I emailed EDD and asked them if I still had to look for work? Didn't make sense to me since I have a job. Well, we all know EDD isn't logical. They actually told me I still have to document 3 searches a week. Completely stupid, but whatever. I did what they asked me to do. I did actually apply for jobs, but they were stupid ones I wouldn't take anyway. Last week, with getting ready for my new job and dealing with some other stuff, I forgot to apply for three jobs and I only applied for one. I went ahead and applied for two jobs yesterday just for good measure, but I lied on the work search record and said that I applied for them last week so they'd see I did three of them. They are real job listings, so I'm not completely faking it. My question is how thorougly do they check these forms? I seriously doubt they're going to call each employer I listed and verify the date that I actually applied. What do you all think?

When Border Patrol Agent Ignacio Ramos pulled the trigger last February, all he knew was that his partner was lying on the ground behind him – bloodied from a struggle with a fleeing suspect – shots had been fired and now, it appeared, the drug smuggler he was pursuing had turned toward him with what looked to be a gun in his hand. In the split-second he had to respond, Ramos determined the course of his and his partner's lives – federal prison for the next 20 years for assault with serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharging of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, violating civil rights and obstruction of justice. Ramos, 37, is an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve and a former nominee for Border Patrol Agent of the Year. On February 17, he responded to a request for b .. . On February 17, he responded to a request for back up from agent Jose Alonso Compean, 28, who noticed a suspicious van near the levee road along the Rio Grande River near the Texas town of Fabens, about 40 miles east of El Paso. Ramos, who headed toward Fabens hoping to cut off the van, soon joined a third agent already in pursuit. Behind the wheel of the van was an illegal alien, Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila of Mexico. Unknown to the growing number of Border Patrol agents converging on Fabens, Aldrete-Davila's van was carrying 800 pounds of marijuana. Unable to outrun Ramos and the third agent, Aldrete-Davila stopped the van on the levee, jumped out and started running toward the river. When he reached the other side of the levee, he was met by Compean who had anticipated the smuggler's attempt to get back to Mexico. "We both yelled out for him to stop, but he wouldn't stop, and he just kept running," Ramos told California's Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. Aldrete-Davila crossed a canal. "At some point during the time where I'm crossing the canal, I hear shots being fired," Ramos said. "Later, I see Compean on the ground, but I keep running after the smuggler." At that point, At that point, Ramos said, Aldrete-Davila turned toward him, pointing what looked like a gun. "I shot," Ramos said. "But I didn't think he was hit, because he kept running into the brush and then disappeared into it. Later, we all watched as he jumped into a van waiting for him. He seemed fine. It didn't look like he had been hit at all." The commotion and multiple calls for back up had brought seven other agents – including two supervisors – to the crossing by this time. Compean picked up his shell casings, but Ramos did not. He also did not follow agency procedure and report that he had fired his weapon. "The supervisors knew that shots were fired," Ramos told the paper. "Since nobody was injured or hurt, we didn't file the report. That's the only thing I would've done different." Had he done that one thing differently, it's unlikely it would have mattered to prosecutors. Over two weeks after the incident, Christopher Sanchez, an investigator with the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General, received a call from a Border Patrol agent in Wilcox, Ariz. The agent's mother-in-law had received a call from Aldrete-Davila's mother in Mexico telling her that her son had been wounded in the buttocks in the shooting. Sanchez followed up with a call of his own to the smuggler in Mexico. In a move that still confuses Ramos and Compean, the U.S. government filed charges against them after giving full immunity to Aldrete-Davila and paying for his medical treatment at an El Paso hospital. At trial, Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra Kanof told the court that the agents had violated an unarmed Aldrete-Davila's civil rights. "The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled it is a violation of someone's Fourth Amendment rights to shoot them in the back while fleeing if you don't know who they are and/or if you don't know they have a weapon," said Kanof. Kanof dismissed Ramos' testimony that he had seen something shiny in the smuggler's hand, say in the smuggler's hand, saying that the agent couldn't be sure it was a gun he had seen. Further, Kanof argued, it was a violation of Border Patrol policy for agents to pursue fleeing suspects. "Agents are not allowed to pursue. In order to exceed the speed limit, you have to get supervisor approval, and they did not," she told the Daily Bulletin. Those shell casings Compean picked up were described to the jury as destroying the crime scene and their failure to file an incident report – punishable by a five-day suspension, according to Border Patrol regulations – an attempted cover up. The Texas jury came back with a guilty verdict. Conviction for discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence has an automatic 10-year sentence. The other counts have varying punishments. Ramos and Compean will be sentenced next month. "How are we supposed to follow the Border Patrol strategy of apprehending terrorists or drug smugglers if we are not supposed to pursue fleeing pe said Ramos, who noted that he only did on that day what he had done for the previous 10 years. "Everybody who's breaking the law flees from us. What are we supposed to do? Do they want us to catch them or not?" He also noted that none of the other agents who had responded to the incident filed reports that shots were fired and, besides, both supervisors at the scene knew they had discharged their weapons. "You need to tell a supervisor because you can't assume that a supervisor knows about it," Kanof countered. "You have to report any discharge of a firearm." "This is the greatest miscarriage of justice I have ever seen," said Andy Ramirez of the nonprofit group Friends of the Border Patrol. "This drug smuggler has fully contributed to the destruction of two brave agents and their families and has sent a very loud message to the other Border Patrol agents: If you confront a smuggler, this is what will happen to you." I'm trying to find night shift work.? See, I have one job right now as a restaurant shift manager that takes up about 25-30 hours each week, always opening shifts (say, around 0800). I need and want a second job but I am strictly a night person. So, rather than go work my restaurant shift, then go to a second job, then go home and sleep through the night, I'd really prefer to get a second job but go to it first, working through the night, then go to the restaurant, then go home and sleep through the day. I like doing freight and stock work and have many years experience with that and with shipping/receiving. I've tried searching through state/federal agencies but haven't had much luck. Other job search engines (IE - monster.com, snagajob.com, and craigslist's job section) don't seem to focus on much night shift work or, for that matter, much beyond basic day-shift retail and office work. Fifty-two economists in September 13’s Wall Street Journal offered a 36-percent average probability of recession by next September, up from 28-percent in August. Oil hit $81.93 per-barrel Wednesday — hardly good news. And the tumultuous home-mortgage industry suffered 243,497 foreclosure listings last month, up 115-percent versus August 2006, RealtyTrac.com reports. This mess triggered 12,000 layoffs, just at lender Countrywide Financial Corp. To prevent tight credit from suffocating the economy, the Federal Reserve Board Tuesday hastily administered a 0.5-percent federal-funds-rate reduction. Amid these worrisome omens and genuine human suffering, the last thing America needs is for congressional Democrats to stuff a pillow over the economy’s face. But they can’t control themselves. “Through 2012, the Democratic Congress’ new budget raises taxes $217 billion,” the National Taxpayers Union’s Pete Sepp calculates. “If no surpluses appear that year, another $175.5 billion tax hike automatically kicks in.” This $392.5 billion includes a halving of the per-child tax credit, restoration of the marriage penalty, a 50-percent leap in the low-income tax bracket (10-percent under Republicans; 15-percent under Democrats), and the resurrection of the Death Tax — from 0 to 55-percent. After August’s tragic Minneapolis bridge collapse, House Transportation chairman James Oberstar (D., Minn.) proposed a “temporary” nickel-a-gallon federal gasoline-tax increase. Never mind that existing gas-tax revenues vanish into narcissistic pork projects rather than urgent infrastructure repairs. Such a tax hike would “cost American motorists an estimated $25 billion over the next three years,” NTU reckons. Democrats cannot plea that soaring deficits require tax hikes to absorb red ink. Indeed, the federal budget gap narrowed from $413 billion in 2004 to $158 billion today, proving that the best deficit medicine nearly always is to limit taxes and consequently unleash American enterprise. A thinner federal slice of a bigger economic pie usually yields revenues exceeding pre-tax-cut levels. Federal receipts have zoomed 7-percent this year. “The tax cuts are working exactly as intended,” Heritage Foundation analyst Brian Riedl argues. “Lower tax rates have increased the incentives to work, save, and invest, and as a result, the economy has grown faster than expected.” He adds: “Concerns that the Bush tax cuts would lead to a long-term shortfall of government revenues have proven false …Tax revenues in 2007 are now estimated to be $70 billion above the level projected even before the 2003 tax cuts. In other words, tax revenues are now above their pre-tax cut baseline.” Democrats cannot deny what happened after President Bush and Capitol Hill Republicans slashed maximum capital-gains taxes from 18 to 15-percent in 2003. Rather than dwindle $5.37 billion between 2003 and 2006, as the congressional Joint Tax Committee’s antique, static-analysis model wrongly predicted, revenues actually advanced $53 billion. Foreign economic ministers understand these lessons and are lowering taxes as if Franklin Roosevelt never lived and Ronald Reagan never died. “Sweden and Russia last year eliminated their estate taxes because they said the tax was economically counterproductive,” economist Stephen Moore wrote in the August 31 Wall Street Journal. “In Germany under Chancellor Angela Merkel, the corporate tax rate has been reduced to less than 30 percent from 39-percent.” Poland recently chopped its business tax from 27-percent to 19. Even Hanoi gets it! Thanks to corporate-tax relief, “the business environment will become more and more attractive, resulting in increased investment,” Vietnamese tax chief Nguyen Van Ninh told Moore. While America’s corporate tax levitates at 35-percent, seven European Union nations have lowered business levies this year. The EU-average corporate tax is 24.2-percent. “Further corporate tax rate cuts are being implemented in Germany, Estonia, Spain, and the United Kingdom, and rate cuts are being discussed in the Czech Republic and France,” observes Cato Institute senior fellow Dan Mitchell. “Even the bloated welfare states of France and Sweden have lower corporate rates and generally better corporate tax systems than America.” Democrats thus resist global pro-market trends, even among progressive governments long on social solidarity and short on “reckless cowboyism.” But, for most Democrats, these facts and numbers are irrelevant. (AP) — Twelve people — eight of them from Uzbekistan — are accused in a federal indictment of luring illegal immigrants to the U.S. to work as "modern-day slaves" in 14 states. Prosecutors announced Wednesday that a federal grand jury in Kansas City issued a 45-count indictment May 6 under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act that included charges of labor racketeering, forced labor trafficking and immigration violations. Matt Whitworth, acting U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri, said Wednesday that the defendants used false information to obtain fake work visas for the foreign workers, who were then threatened with deportation while living in substandard apartments and working for inadequate pay. The indictment says the conspiracy involved fraudulent labor leasing contracts in Missouri, Kansas, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, South Carolina and Wyoming. Eight of the 12 defendants were arrested Tuesday, when the indictment was unsealed. They made their first court appearances in the states where they were arrested and are being held in federal custody until they are brought to Kansas City, said Don Ledford, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office. The scheme ensnared hundreds of illegal immigrants who worked at hotels, construction sites, and in other businesses, many of them in the Kansas City area and in the southwest Missouri resort town of Branson, Whitworth said. "The indictment alleges that this criminal enterprise lured victims to the United States under the guise of legitimate jobs and a better life, only to treat them as modern-day slaves under the threat of deportation," said James Gibbons, acting special agent in charge of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement based in Chicago. The employees allegedly were required to pay exorbitant rent to live in barely furnished apartments that "ensured that the workers did not make enough to repay their debt, purchase a plane ticket home or pay their own living expenses while in the United States," according to Whitworth. The workers also allegedly had to pay for transportation to their jobs, uniform fees and other fees that, combined with low pay or lack of work, often left them with paychecks that had negative earnings, prosecutors said. They were threatened with physical harm, deportation or other legal problems if they did not comply. The scheme also controlled the workers by not allowing them to receive mail, prosecutors said. The companies indicted were Kansas City labor leasing company Giant Labor Solutions; Crystal Management, Inc., headquartered in Mission, Kan.; and Five Star Cleaning, headquartered in Overland Park, Kan. Court records did not list lawyers for any of the defendants, and Ledford said the U.S. attorney's office was not sure if any of them had hired lawyers. A telephone mailbox at a number of Giant Labor Solutions was full and could not accept messages Wednesday. No phone listings were found for Crystal Management or Five Star Cleaning.
