Where else can I find local job listings? I am currently working for the California Department of Transportation as a student intern in IT, but will be laid off on September 1st due to the California state budget. I am a student in the CSU system, though may be dropping out for the semester due to a lack of tuition funds and not qualifying as an independent student under the FAFSA requirements. I have checked through Craigslist and Monster for job postings, but there's not much there aside from general retail and sales. Are there any other websites or other ways to find a decent list of job openings that are local? Thanks.
Does anyone know where a 15-year-old can find local part-time job listings? I've checked my local paper and snagajob.com, but I haven't found many results for my area (I'm in upstate NY.) Does anyone know of any websites/publications that specialize in finding teen jobs?

Closing date on job listings? When an employer lists a "closing date" is that the time when they start going through applications and scheduling interviews, or is it simply the deadline for submitting an application? The reason I ask is because about 10 days ago I applied for a position with a bank with my ideal hours and job duties. After not hearing back from them I applied for another position with same company just two days ago, however this was for a crummy phone position with bad hours. Today I received a call to schedule an interview. The thing is, the closing date for the first position ended a few days ago, and the closing date for the second position I applied for does not end for another week and a half. When I scheduled my interview I didn't want to bring up the fact that I had applied for two separate positions and since the two positions are very similar the recruiter didn't specify which position I was interviewing for. So... if employers generally wait until the closing date before sifting through the applications it would make sense that I'm interviewing for the first position I applied for; but at the same time I initially assumed I received the call in regards to my second application as I submitted it just two days ago. What do you guys think? Also, if this makes any difference, the company is a very large bank and I submitted my application online, the recruiter who scheduled my interview was out of state so it's not like it's a local job hiring process. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Job without college education. Possible? I'm a recent community college dropout. I have nearly enough hours to qualify for an associate of arts degree, but I just haven't gotten around to finishing that yet. I have come under increasing pressure from my parents to go out and get a job, but I don't want to get tied down into another job like the last one I had (I worked as the front desk clerk at a national hotel chain which had a location in my home town for nearly 2 years). I earned 7.50 there, which I would consider reasonable but not optimum if I were to be out on my own (I live with my parents now). I feel that I have enough skills to be paid a more competitive wage at a more secure position, but can't seem to find anything more than "box lifter needed" and other "career paths" in the local job listings (I live in a town of about 20,000 people). Is it possible for someone like me to find a job they love without a college degree, or am I doomed to wander the path of meager earning, uninteresting occupations such as "box lifter guy" and "front desk guy". I'm completely depressed and don't see any hope for myself when it comes to getting a job. Help!!!

Advice on how to get into teaching undergrad / grad school? I have a bachelors and an MBA, have been working for over 8 years now and I'm the head of marketing for my company. I always wanted to teach, and have been thinking about how to get into teaching (management or marketing subjects). I'm in Tampa, FL and have searched the local universities job listings to see if they need a lecturer or part-time faculty but no luck so far. What would you recommend someone that is interested in teaching? How can I get into this? Do I need another degree or should I focus on certain types of schools? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I can't seem get a job due to drug testing of marijuana even though i have quit, any advice? I recently graduated from high school and I'm trying very hard to secure a summer job, partially in the hopes of making some money but mostly because I like to keep myself busy. I have spent the last few days searching local listings for jobs in my area and have found quite a few jobs which I feel I would be very good at, none of which I can apply to due to what I consider drug testing that no longer applies to me. Here is what I mean: I am an American who grew up overseas in a country in which Marijuana is not only legal but used ceremonially and very easily available. Living in a country where marijuana was legal combined with the fact that I have minor tourrettes caused me to partake in a fair amount of smoking over the past two years. I would only smoke in the evenings, NEVER at school or any important events or anything and I was able to maintain a fair grade point average nonetheless. You may disagree with this lifestyle but that makes no difference in my problem. I made a firm self agreement that after I graduated from High School and moved home to the US I would quit completely as I do not want to be in trouble with the law and I don't have the money to maintain this practice. I have carried this out, moving to the US, and quitting completely with no intention to start again. My problem is that I now have 2+ years of marijuana in my system which I put there LEGALLY which is preventing me from getting a job almost ANYWHERE. I am going crazy trying to find any sort of employment that doesn't drug test and such, even though I am a hard worker who has no intention to use drugs in the near future. I am very afraid that I will show up to a job interview, get the job but then be rejected because I test positively on the drug test. This seems very likely because I smoked regularly for two years. I also would hate to fail a drug test and have that information jeopardize my acceptance into college next fall (I have already been accepted) or my chances of getting a job in the future :( Does anyone have any sort of advice for me on how I can get a job anyway or something along those lines without resorting to buying fake urine online, because I would really rather not spend the next 6 weeks unemployed simply because of my past LEGAL use... Any response would be GREATLY appreciated...
What are the best keyword search terms to use to find job postings on business sites.. not Monster, CB, etc..? Looking to uncover job leads by finding postings on local business sites for help wanted. Trying terms like "positions", "to hire", "city, state". Newspapers, job boards show all the same garbage over and over again. Want to find current or previous job listings on the company sites themselves.
Where's the best place to look for jobs? Desperately seeking a site or source to find local job listings?

Is there a site with listings of available jobs? Is there any site that can find local stores that have available job oppurtunities. I'm not talking big career wise, I'm talking about like Department Stores, Blockbuster, small time sort of like summer job type thing. Anyone know of any good sites?
Searching for jobs on Craigslist? So I've just graduated from a university in California and have begun the job search but I want to relocate so I've been looking deeply into local job listings on Craigslist which seem to have some very interesting leads in various cities across the country. The only problem is, when the employers reply to my email they ask if I currently live in those cities, and since I don't, I am not getting a second reply from them, even though I state that I am willing to relocate. They always say that they are looking for local people. What's up with that! How do I get around this? I don't want to move before I've landed a job!
does anyone know where to look for a job in prescott valley? I just moved here from california and am not sure what paper to buy to find a local office or entry level accounting job. There seems to be no listings at all in the papers I am buying. I signed up with a temp agency and they are in no hurry. Does anyone have any advise as to what paper to purchase or where else would be a good place to find postings. I already search monster, career builder and betterprescott jobs daily. Please help. I cant wait to go back to work!!!!
College freshman, no work experience, how do I include high school info/class projects in a resume? I graduated high school last year and am going to my community college. They have a program where you can sign up and see local job listings. I'm going to fill out an application today for a hostess job at a restaurant but I want to put together a resume to hand in as well. I have absolutely no work experience (not even babysitting), so I want to highlight the things I've done in school. I did a bit in high school with clubs and was even part of a leadership camp, and I did a little volunteer work in a course I took this year. I read in many places that you shouldn't put a lot or anything about high school in a resume, so I was wondering where in the resume, if anywhere, I should include the stuff I've done in high school, and under what heading it would go under.
how can I make money from my website? I have an idea to start a website on the little town I live in. Population is around 20,000 people. It will have stuff like announcing when new businesses open up or when one is closing down, See a pothole, or a stop sign that’s obscured by overgrowth – you’d go to my site, post a picture and I’d get it repaired, a trading post where you can buy, sell, barter, local job listings, also a forum where people can do everything from complaining about the lousy customer service at the Pub down the street to glowing adoration of how someone at some business went above and beyond. I’m also going to have a page on fact and stats: square mileage, councilmen contact info, population stats, etc. The Chamber of Commerce has already said they will provide me with info, resources, etc. (they will be the ones that I report the potholes to). I eventually will sell hats and t-shirts, etc. with the website logo on it, but until then I need to figure out how to make money off this website. I’ve heard of Google AdSense and AdvertisSpace.com I’m not quite sure what they do yet but I will check them out. Besides asking for donations, which I'd rather not do, how else can I make money off this site until the hats and t-shirts are sold? I’m kinda starting out with no money.

Is there a website where I could apply to be a mystery shopper, for free? Completely for free. I don't trust having to send 19.95 to some random address! I read an article a long time ago in a local publication that there are some legit employers of that sort of business, and there is some website with job listings that doesn't charge. Have any of you done mystery shopping, really? And have any of you been ripped off by some "mystery" employer? If this question doesn't have a positive answer, what are some actual jobs I could do in my rarer free time to make a little extra money? My job hours are very part-time where I work, and I am afraid of mounting expenses.
I CANNOT find a job. Any suggestions? I am desperate. I've been living in Pasco, WA since March 08. In April last year, I managed to get a "job". It was managing a website for a local realtor, but she paid me by the hour, and it just doesn't take that many hours to update a site. I made $50 a month, tops. After about six months I quit due to school conflicts. I haven't had a job since then, and I've been constantly, actively looking. I'm 18, have never worked other than that computer job. I've graduated high school with good grades, and have taken some college classes, working towards an AA. I need to get a job if I want to take more classes, because I need the money. Each class is about $500. I have applied to twenty different places, all entry level jobs. I've interviewed with Hastings, Target, Petco, West Corporation, GameStop, and Amazon.com. Before the Amazon interview, I took a workshop on interviewing, figuring I was probably doing something wrong. I still just got rejected by Amazon.com. I also took the test to be a census taker, and for a while they were calling me every day. Unfortunately, I was out of the state. I came back and told them I was available, and they said I'd probably hear from them again, because I scored really high, but I haven't, and I think the hiring period is over until this summer. After my tests at West, they said that they haven't scheduled a training class for the position yet, and to call them back this week. I just did, and now they're telling me to call again next week. I haven't technically interviewed with them, just taken a test, so I don't know if them telling me to wait for the class means that they want to give me the job or not. Either way, I'm getting desperate. I also applied to a dog grooming place yesterday, haven't heard back yet. I look in the classifieds every day. I look at the listings online through WorkSource, a WA job agency. I look at the job listings posted at the community college. I even looked into a summer program that trains and places people ages 16-24 in a job, but they told me it was geared towards people from low-income families, and I still live with my parents, who are relatively well-off, so I don't qualify. I feel like I've done EVERYTHING I can, and I still can't find a job. Even if I got student loans and got my AA, so I might be qualified for more, I need to be out of my parents' house before then - WAY before then - so I still really need a job in the meantime. What can I do?
How do I find local home-based retailers? Specifically, I want to find people in my area who are making soap in their garage or shirts in their basement. Is there a website that caters to this? Every site I've found either does a bad job filtering on my location or contains very few listings.
Looking for a job - teenager? I'm looking for a job part time during the weekends I am talking minimum wage like at Safeway or something is there any website where i can find any local listings Thanks
Are there any online job search websites that don't suck? I have a full time job and other responsibilities, and as a result I don't have time to drive around town and pick up applications at random places. I don't have any vocational skills and I haven't graduated college yet, so I'm pretty much limited to entry-level positions. The only problem is, online job listings like craigslist or monster seem to be loaded with ads for phone sales, work-from-home scams, or ads for jobs which require some sort of skillset I don't have. My local newspaper classified isn't much help either...it's all the same sorts of ads. Anyone know of any websites which offer decent, dignified, entry-level job listings?
Does this job sound too difficult for me? If you do not have any experience working in an office, but have a great customer service background? "Assists customers by providing information concerning available leisure activities, selling tickets, making reservations and arranging for special accommodations required for tours, sporting events, theaters and special events. Provides full assistance to individuals planning travel itineraries not requiring commercial transportation, including hotel reservations and other local service or information. Maintains brochures, price listings and related information for customer use. Receives payment, issues receipts and documents business transactions. Performs related administrative support duties" I think it sounds like alot of fun and i'd love to try it, but want to save myself the embarrasement by applying if it's gonna be too hard. Thanks for any answers. Also, Anyone have any ideas what to put on the overview to underline my customer service?
Where can owner/op find local trucking jobs in Michigan? OTR is a little too much-Short runs ok. Any ideas? all listings want you to be out for a week or more-anyone know where to apply to get home evenings 1-2 days during the week as well as weekends? Overtime is not a problem.
How to go about getting a job at a vets office or pet resort? First things first volunteer work is not an option....I'm trying to get a job that will later develop into a career, plus we need the extra income. I want to work at a vets office or pet resort. I want to be around animals. I never see anything in the local listings for any of them. Should I just go up there, ask if they are hiring and give them my resume. I mean its not like with a fast food job where you go in and pick up an app and turn it in... I eventually want to be a vet tech but I only have a high school degree so I know that won't happen right now. But there are other jobs I can do there right? I want to work with animals but I'm having a hard time getting in anywhere. And no I don't want to work retail. What is your advice?
Why is it so impossible to get a job!?!?!? I've managed to get interviews at least every other week with almost all the local shops/restaurants that I could easily mesh into. I'm bilingual (French). I have a perfectly formatted resume. I have former experience in the fast-food industry. I'm a perfectly capable 19 year old. I know for a fact that my former managers would all rehire me in a heartbeat if the opportunity were presented to them. Ughh.....I hate living in the High Desert (California)! The only job listings I can ever find for this area on the web are all for jobs that require degrees, bar tending school and stripping. All these stupid Ma 'n' Pa shops and restaurants only hiring family members and friends. I'm not at all exaggerating either. I can't stand not having any income anymore. My clothes are all WAY over sized, ratty and stained. I can't go to school like I want to due to lack of income/no one to lend any money. It also sucks that almost everyone I know/am related to is in the same situation that I'm in. Sorry, I just needed to vent. I realize that there are a lot more people that probably have it exactly as bad or way worse than me right now, but it's still extremely frustrating to know that I was doing perfectly fine in life and now I've fallen to the bottom of the hole. If anyone actually has a legitimate answer for this, go ahead and shoot.
Can't understand this job ad? I'm trying to figure out what the hours would be. It's listed under "part-time." 3P-11P;11P-7A/Weekdays and weekends Shift Details: This position is normally scheduled for both 2nd and 3rd shift. Would that mean 3-11 one day a week, and 11-7 one days a week? Or varying days? But it also says: Hours/Pay Period: 40 Do you think it means there are 40 hours in their pay period because 40 hours a week is not part-time. Also, in the job title it has (PT 50%) next to it. Any idea of what that would mean? All of the jobs under this employer's listings have this lingo. There are also jobs listed that have 48 hours/week under Hours/Pay Period and say (PT 60%). How on Earth could 48 hours per week be considered part-time? These are local hospital jobs - you'd think they'd have a better system of listing these. Do you work 48 hours a week one week, and have the next week off, maybe? Is that how they get away with listing it as part-time?
Are there too many radiologic technologists in the field currently? I have noticed that the graduating class at the local community college is having trouble finding jobs at the area hospitals. Also, there are no job listings for X-ray techs, CT techs, or MRI techs in my area. Is this a common theme in other regions? Are other rad tech schools still pushing through as many techs as possible even with the apparent downturn in postions due to CR and DR? Has anybody else witnessed this and is it just a cyclical occurrence? Thanks for any responses.
Freelance job/service bid websites? A long time ago I found a site (very popular with thousands of users) where you, as a freelance designer, editor, photographer, or any other skill under the sun, could go an bid on local serives/jobs that were needed by someone. Anyone could post a job request, then all the people who were interested in doing that job would put their bid, like their hourly rate, then the original poster could shooe the lowest bidder. Kind of like ebay for job, but you would try to bid down instead of up to get the job you were wanting. It is NOT bid-job.com - I just ran across that site before posting here, and it is small, puny, and not the one I am thinking of. Please do not post to use eBay...I have tried that before and I have had my listings removed because it was not considered "a tangible item" - and please do not suggest giving some trinket free, trying to get around the "tangible item" rule...I am REALLY looking for this other site that focused primarily on freelance bidding.
find job in construction locally? my cousin is a high school grad and wants to work in construction, but for a small contractor. he isn't having much luck finding these type of employers on monster, careerbuilder, and local classifieds because the listings are mainly for professional or clerical positions. please suggest a place or places he can go to to hook up with or find job with contractor.

What is the protocol for an open house at a restaurant for a management position? I am currently looking for a job and I have found several listings for open houses for local restaurants for management positions. I have never been to one of these, so I would like to know basically how they work and what I should expect.
Ameriplan - work at home? I've been searching for a job that I can make good money on, and can work from home. I looked on a local news website that has job listings and found something from Ameriplan. It sounds too good to be true - potential to earn $2000/month, benefits, no meetings, online training. I'd like to believe in it, but I just don't know. Does anyone have any information on whether or not this is legit?
Does anyone know any good websites for...? Does anyone know any good websites that have local part-time jobs listings for college students?
Best way to apply for a job? I used to work at a C.P.W. Christian Book Store, but after they closed a lot of their stores down, I am forced to look for another job like thousands of Americans. Anyways, there are several listings in a local mall where I want to apply to. At the mall's website, they have the manager's name and number to reach them at. My question is should I call first and then just follow the application process the managers give me? OR should I just walk in and fill out an application along with a cover letter and my resume? If I do call them first, what should I say when I call them? Thanks in advance to all that answer this question. I just want to make sure that I taking the best approach at this, especially now more than ever.
what is craigslist? are their jobs on there for real? I was browsing craigslist, I have never heard of it before, and see they have a job section, but all the listings sound wierd and fishy, do they list legit local jobs??

What are the best ways to search for a seasonal or year-round job in the Taos, NM area? I'm planning to travel to New Mexico to look for a seasonal / temporary job prior to deciding whether to move there long-term. I've never been to Taos, but I was thinking that the ski resort and other local businesses in the area must hire extra people for the ski season. I found several websites that provide listings for seasonal & permanent jobs, but I was wondering whether anybody has any suggestions before I begin the time consuming task of applying for numerous jobs through multiple sites. As a little background info, I have 20+ years of experience primarily in human resources management and employee relations for large, internationally known hotel and cruise line companies, as well as sales & customer service experience. BA degree. I welcome all suggestions, especially from anyone who currently lives in the Taos area, or has lived there previously.
My husband just took a job in El Segundo, CA. Where should we live? We're from the Midwest, so our CA knowledge is limited (but we're learning!). The L.A. area is too expensive to buy a house, so we'll be renting. We're in our late 20's and have 2 Golden Retrievers. A dog friendly area, a safe neighborhood, and a relatively short commute (ideally no more than 30 minutes) are high priorities. Any ideas about which city and/or neighborhood to live in? Thoughts on where to look for good apartment listings (i.e., a particular local newspaper)? Thanks for your help!
Where can people with felonies go to find work? I have been unemployed for nearly 9 months now. I have a professional resume, and a great work history and ethic. The problem is I am a felon. I did a lot of bad check writing a couple years ago, and will be on probation until July 2010. My fiance and I moved to the Nashville, TN area, and ever since then I have had no luck whatsoever. I have applied to every job listing on the internet from McDonald's to Receptionist jobs for law firms. I don't care what the job is at this point, as long as I can bring a pay check home to my family. None of the temp agencies will work with me because I am an "Insurance Risk". The jobs that my local Employment Agency has available are ones that require certain schooling, and/or training for a number of years. I can't afford to go to school until I am employed. We are so far behind on bills that we have had to make a lot of difficult sacrifices lately, and I am becoming more and more depressed. I know eventually everything will get better, but in the meantime my family might lose it all. I think that this country's views on felons is ridiculous. We messed up, we served our debt, and when we get out of jail/prison there are no jobs, most people won't even rent an apt. or house to a felon even if you have the money for it. The last time I checked I was still a human being, I still have to feed my children, clothe them, put a roof over their head. Trying to do all that is what got me my felony in the first place, and I don't want to go down that road again. Does anyone out there have any advice? Also, my probation office has no job listings, because fewer and fewer companies are hiring felons. Even the Wal-Mart, Lowe's, and Home Depot (which usually as a rule hire felons), have slacked way off on their hiring. The only downfall of lying on my application, is that I have to report my employment to my probation officer who then has to verify it by calling the company I work for. It's basically a lose/lose situation at this point. Thanks to all of you for your advice. Also, I have looked in to starting my own business. Banks won't lend to me, but I am trying to get info on how to get a grant to start my business. Wish me luck.
How do you find work in another country? I am from the US and want to relocate to the UK. I have a degree in Family and Human Development with a gerontology certificate. I have applied to listings through Monster and Careerbuilders, but the only reply I get is they are looking for local people and to contact them when I get over there, but I can't get a permit to work without a job. How can I do it?

Diane Reeves of Lakewood, who planned the protest for Aug. 25 at the town square on Clifton Avenue, pointed to rumors that such gangs as MS 13 and the Latin Kings, as well as some out-of-town militant groups, would disrupt the rally. That, coupled with the conflict that occurred at a similar protest last month in Morristown, convinced Reeves that the handful of officers Police Chief Robert Lawson promised to provide would not be enough protection. "I was nervous that if something happened, what were we supposed to do?" Reeves said. She and other rally supporters voiced resentment that the township had not agreed to assign more members of its 125-strong police force. They pointed to Morristown, which supplied a strong police presence at the protest over the same issue in late July. Five people were ar-rested and two were slightly injured at that event. "I was very upset when I heard," said Carmen Morales, vice chairwoman of the advocacy group You Don't Speak For Me, who was supposed to speak at the rally. "I feel Lakewood is like a sanctuary for illegal immigrants . . . and (the police) seem to protect them." Officials relieved Mayor Raymond Coles stressed that the Morristown rally was municipally sponsored, as opposed to the privately organized one in Lakewood. Lawson said he could not justify taking more officers off patrol duty, and the township could not afford the overtime. Beyond that, Coles and Lawson agreed with Reeves' decision to cancel. "I'm relieved," Lawson said. "Lakewood has a large number of undocumented residents . . . and now you're going to have a group in the center of town speaking out against illegal aliens. So it's possible there'd be friction between the two factions that could lead to confrontation." Coles said, "This is a very emotional, heated issue and bringing two very emotional groups together might cause problems." Estimates of the number of illegal immigrants in Lakewood range from 5,000 to 20,000. A 2006 estimate by the U.S. Census bureau put the township's population at almost 70,000. Lawson added that it was common for organizers to pay for off-duty police officers as protection at rallies. The Lakewood rally was expected to draw up to 500 people and was to have five speakers, including two family members of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Reeves, who has never organized a rally before, now plans to find an indoor venue in another town to hold the protest, saying that since the cancellation she has heard from angry supporters offering contributions toward the cost of a demonstration. "Look at the 100,000 illegals getting protection to march down the street everywhere else," she said. "But me, a citizen, has no right because of safety issues." Does anyone know how to obtain names of new businesses opening up in a particular area? I tried the local chamber of commerce, etc. but no luck there. I did find these companies willing to say lists but they want to charge like $500 or more. I also tried calling the local phone company but they said they don't have the info??? Well my best bet is the local phone company would have the info but not willing to show newly established listings. My reason for wanting the info is because I just started a part time job that I hope becomes full time and it involves setting up merchants for accepting credit card transactions.
Weapons Instructor Jobs? Anyone know where I can search for jobs as a weapons instructor. Maybe working for the DEA or local law enforcment. My experience includes the employment of various machineguns in combat and a year as 2d Marine Division heavy weapons instructor at Camp Lejuene. Any job listings in the United States. Can't seem to find anything through Google. Goverment sites, local law enforcement, anything along those lines would be helpful.
Do mortgage lenders take local demand for your occupation into account when evaluating your application? My husband and I would like to buy a house by June of 2009, when our current apartment lease expires. With the national economy tanking we're worried that we may not get approved simply because my husband will only have a year of full-time salary history. My husband is a first year software engineer for a small (but well established and carefully managed) defense contractor whose biggest customer is NATO. We live in Huntsville, Alabama; a hot bed of high tech jobs primarily in the aerospace, electronics and defense industries. The city actually has the 3rd highest concentration of software engineering jobs in the country, behind Boulder, Colorado and Silicon Valley. The city's economy is relatively strong yet has a very low cost of living. My husband graduated from college in May of this year and currently makes a starting salary of 50K a year. He's only been on the job for 3 months but has made himself virtually indispensable to his boss. The company is working on an addition to their product that only he has the skills to implement so his salary is expected to rise at least somewhat during the company's annual evaluations this winter. We don't want to borrow much in relation to our income. I was doing some research on the local real estate market and the type of properties we're interested in (3 bedroom ranchers under 1500 square feet on 1/2 to 1 acre lots outside the city) have an average asking price of $110,000 and aren't selling very well. Most of the houses I found in online listings were completely vacant, which means more negotiating room for me. I'm hoping to find someone ultra desperate to sell and get them down to $90,000 or even $80,000. Our credit score is around 720 and our debt primarily consists of low interest student loans and a small loan for the motorcycle my husband uses to commute to work, which we plan on paying off soon. We have a fair amount of money in savings and try to save 15 to 20% of our take home pay We're eligible for multiple first-time buyer programs in our state but I'm getting a little anxious about qualifying for the loan. We really want to get out of apartments because every time we rent we're cursed with a smelly and/or noisy neighbor.
How to find work to improve my odds of getting accepted to medical school? I'm a liberal arts graduate who has been thinking about applying to medical school but have never worked in a hospital or with patients before. How can I find work to increase my odds of getting accepted? I stopped by two local hospitals in my area and looked through the job listings but all of the positions I saw required prior experience - something I don't have. What should I do?
I have been looking for a job for months. Are there any other sites/agencies I can use (no work at home jobs)? I have been looking since I graduated from college in May. I have a Bachelor of Science in biology, but I'm willing to work in any field. I have put in quite a few applications, but I'm not getting much back. I'm also having trouble finding a lot of things that I'm qualified to do; there are plenty of listings, but not many that pertain to anything I do. I have used monster.com, careerbuilder.com, al.com (local newspaper's site), craigslist, indeed.com and collegegrad.com. I searched gov. jobs, but I don't qualify to do anything listed there for Birmingham. Are there other sites or agencies that I can use? (Please no spam/work from home jobs.) Are there any other things I can do? I know the market is tough right now, but it seems like I should be able to get *something*. NO SPAM PLEASE. :)
Want to work with animals...having a hard time finding anything any advice? I want to work at a vets office or pet resort. I want to be around animals. I never see anything in the local listings for any of them. Should I just go up there, ask if they are hiring and give them my resume. I mean its not like with a fast food job where you go in and pick up an app and turn it in... I eventually want to be a vet tech but I only have a high school degree so I know that won't happen right now. But there are other jobs I can do there right? I want to work with animals but I'm having a hard time getting in anywhere. And no I don't want to work retail. What is your advice? Thanks. Volunteering isn't an option. We need the income. Do vets offices actually have you fill out an app or how does it work Thanks.....like i said though I can't take a volunteer job. I have to support my family
College Grad, majored in Music Industry, minor in Popular Music. Seeking Full-time job...What are my options? I've recently graduated from College, with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Industry(my school has a Music Ind. program), as well as a minor in Popular Music. My overall GPA is 3.45 and have worked in Promotions for some time at a local Radio Station. I'm about an hour or so away from NY, one of the two major locations for the Industry(the other being LA). I'm seeking Full-time employment, though most of the listings I've come across are either Part-time, or Internship-only. Ideally, I'd like to work in a Recording Studio, since I also play and work with software all the time. But I'm not picky, I'm more concerned with having Full-time employment. I have a resume, as well. Those of you familiar with the Industry, and have worked in it, what would you advise me to do? Do you know of any additional opportunities I can take a look into? I wish to start working ASAP. Thanks for all your help!
Are there any paper route jobs available to kids anymore? My little brother is trying to earn some money this year and thought of a paper route. I had one when I was younger, but can't seem to find any page on the local papers' websites about hiring delivery people. Do papers still hire younger kids? And if so, how would he go about finding listings or an application?
Can you summarize this? This year, 29 out of about 1,000 new teachers departed. By TIA MITCHELL, The Times-Union When school began last fall, nearly half of Highlands Middle School teachers were new. sponsored links florida times union archives News From Anywhere In The World's Largest Newspaper Archive. FreeCreditReportsInstantly.com Ads by Yahoo! "I always wanted to be a teacher," is something Principal Cathy Barnes remembers hearing more than once as she conducted interviews over the summer. Most of the 26 newbies had no formal educator training. They were mostly midcareer professionals looking to make a change. Barnes offered to give them a chance, and then set up training and coaching to help them succeed, she said. It took about a month for her to realize that not all of them would. By the winter break, Barnes had let go four of those new teachers by invoking a state law that allows new teachers to be fired without giving a reason so long as it is done within the first half of the school year. Known as the "97-day rule" because of the stated deadline, school administrators say it allows schools to quickly part ways with teachers that simply are not equipped for the job. However, union officials say the law makes it so easy to fire new teachers that principals do that rather than spend the time and money to mold them into better educators. The district has approximately 9,000 teachers. This year in Duval County, 29 out of the approximately 1,000 newly minted teachers were terminated under the 97-day rule or resigned in lieu of being terminated. Many other new teachers have also left the school system this year, though other reasons were cited for their departure. One was later rehired at another school. After their 97-day probationary period expired on Jan. 9, those teachers received the security of knowing they cannot be fired midyear without due process. But they don't have to be reappointed to their post at the end of the school year. After three years, Florida teachers receive tenure, meaning if during the summer break a principal decides not to invite them back to a school, they must be offered other options. The 97-day rule was created in 1997, a time when Education Commissioner Frank Brogan was introducing sweeping education reform. At the time, a group of lawmakers wanted to eliminate teacher tenure laws. Knowing that such a law would not pass, they settled for the 97-day rule instead. Terrie Brady, president of the local teachers union, said of the 800 teachers who have left the school system this year, she feels the 97-day rule is responsible for more than 29, possibly close to 100. She feels half a year isn't long enough to determine who will become a great teacher. "If somebody chooses to want to go into education, why would we not give them as much support as possible and encourage them to stay and make sure they are successful?" she said. Brady said the school system lacks the money, time and resources to devote to professional development, especially since both new and veteran teachers are already bogged down with paperwork, mandates and other things that tax their time outside of the classroom. She advocates for more mentoring and training to help new teachers adapt to the job. She said she agrees there are teachers who should removed from the classroom, but she thinks there should always be a process in place to hear both sides of the story and determine a fair course to follow. Veteran educator Jim Williams was a principal for over a decade before the 97-day rule was in place and about the same time after. During that time, he said he probably used the 97-day rule only twice. "It was always that I cannot leave this person working with students because I believe they are doing damage to students," Williams said. "Nor do I see between now and the end of the year any change." Williams said he always considered the impact of the decision on the students, as well as the employee. Now that he supervises a cluster of principals, he expects them to provide ample evidence supporting their decision to exercise the 97-day rule. In the end, however, he agrees that teachers who are not effective in the classroom should be removed. "We're not an employment agency; we're a teaching institution and students ought to be primary in this," he said.

I am trying to locate a lunch truck service near Seattle? Surprisingly, I can't find any listings in the phone book or online I've tried: lunch truck, taco truck, mobile food service, mobile food truck, office catering, office lunch, commissary, job site food and a bunch more (including Roach Coach)...with zero success. I even tried the local health dept - thinking these guys SHOULD be permitted - but of course due to privacy issues, no such luck. I've seen these trucks around, but of course now that I've been tasked with actually finding one - they have suddenly become an endangered species or something. So, I'm seeking help...if anyone knows the name of a lunch truck company in the greater Seattle Area (Redmond/Bellevue) I would be extremely grateful. My boss is starting to look at me cross-eyed...I mean seriously, this shouldn't be this hard, Right???? Thanks in advance to everyone's feedback. Kat

I'm CLUELESS in regards to anything before the interview... How to land a chance at a job? I'm currently looking at Bed, Bath, and Beyond; JoAnn Fabrics; Michael's Crafts; A couple of grocery stores; Dunkin Donuts; and will add to the list if I can think of anyone else who may be hiring. -How do I verify (I found most of these positions in online listings from God knows when, and vague suggestions from people who know I'm looking)/ask (I have other places I'd like to check out, but if they're hiring, I haven't heard anything about it.) if a place is hiring? Do I call ahead? Walk in? If it's the latter, whom do I ask? -Is the first question always necessary, or is it acceptable to just ask for a job application? Again, who would I see about that? -Is it really tacky to be in the place for any reason other than to pick up an application? I saw a guy order an application along with his date's slushie once and it just didn't seem right. If I decide to conduct a bit of business while my parents (I just turned 16.) are off doing their shopping, is that weird? -Is it okay to take a lot of random shots? Example: Last time I was at a local restaurant, the owner (who's friends with my mom) ended up serving us, all the while talking about how difficult it was having only one waitress most weekday afternoons (My ideal schedule...) and the whole "so hard to find good help" rant. I was so tempted to jump in with a "Maybe I could help... Are you hiring?" but didn't know if it would be a good way to start what would have probably become an impromptu interview.
PLEASE HELP with History!!? My state is NEW YORK Please please help me this one is so frustrating i am no good at finding stuff 1. What are the qualifications for obtaining a certificate to teach in the elementary schools of your community? What are the qualifications for teaching in high schools? What government unit issues each type of certificate? (Is it National? By the District? By State?) For what length of time is each type of certification valid? (Tip: Look up a local school district's website and read about their job openings. You may find teaching requirements here. You can also look up Education in your city/town/state/district in Google.) 2. List 5 occupations in your community for which a high school education is necessary or highly desirable. List 5 that require at least a college degree. (Check the Classifieds for job listings, if you don't get the newspaper, you can look online at Monster.com) 3. Many colleges and universities are maintained by public taxes in your state. Look up and list 2 of these state schools in your area. Chose one of these schools and list the entrance requirements. (Tip: Entrance requirements may be found in the Admissions sections of the University or College website)

Beside's Craig's List, where's a good place to find a driver with car for 300 mile trip with1 passenger? This would be to transport 1 adult, round trip, 150 miles each way, with 3 hour layover / wait time in the middle. Buses do not go to this destination. Taxi's and car service are prohibitively expensive and in very short supply in this area. Need a private citizen or other with a car and willingness to spend 5 hours driving with a 3 hour wait in the middle. Have already looked at Craig's List and there are no listings for this area (small town). Besides local classifieds in a newspaper that is almost dead / defunct, where else might a driver with car be recruited for an easy 1 day job?
Newspaper routes? I have been looking for a part time job to earn a bit of money while I'm not in school. My local newspaper has about 8 different newspaper routes listed. I have an Associates in VIsual Arts & over 3 years experience in the graphic arts (I work freelance from my home for direct mail advertisers) and I am interested in moving on and working for an actual location. Many larger companies seem to require a Bachelors and/or 5+ years experience... so how do I get into a smaller local company? I've tried job listings on craigslist, careerbuilder, newspapers, etc. I'm looking for more direct ways to find those places that many need me. Has anyone done this and how did you?

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said slightly more than half of the influenza virus strains reported to its surveillance system are not good matches against the strains included in this flu season’s vaccine. The number of states reporting widespread flu activity jumped to 31 this week compared with 11 a week ago, the CDC said. But Dr. Joe Bresee of the CDC’s influenza division said there are no indications this flu season is worse than usual. Story continues below ↓ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- advertisement -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Seasonal flu activity was slow to start this year but has increased sharply in recent weeks,” Bresee told reporters. One measure officials use to gauge the severity of the season is the number of flu-related child deaths. Bresee said the CDC has heard of six U.S. children who have died from the flu, a relatively low number compared with recent years. Flu viruses mutate and change all the time, so every year a different vaccine is created as officials predict which particular strains will circulate. The vaccine is designed to protect against three influenza strains — two from Type A, an H1N1 and an H3N2 version, and one for Type B. Bresee said about 30 percent of the overall strains of influenza in the United States may be a Type A strain that emerged in Australia called H3N2 A/Brisbane. It emerged too late to be included in the flu vaccine offered in the United States beginning in September and October. The Type B strain chosen for this year’s vaccine also was not a good match for most of the B virus strains seen in the United States this flu season, Bresee said. “While a less-than-ideal virus match between the viruses in the vaccine and those circulating viruses can reduce vaccine effectiveness, we know from past influenza studies that the vaccine can still protect enough to make illness milder or prevent flu-related complications,” Bresee said. Flu vaccines take months to make. Bresee also said some resistance is being reported to the antiviral drug Tamiflu, made by Switzerland’s Roche Holding AG and Gilead Sciences Inc of the United States. Of the viruses tested in CDC flu labs, 4.5 percent are resistant to the drug, Bresee said. Influenza kills an estimated 36,000 Americans in an average year, and puts 200,000 into the hospital, the CDC said. Copyright 2008 Reuters. Click for restrictions.
