UK - Why does the job centre search for jobs for you which will not support your family? please read on;? I took my Hgv1 licence, my Health and safety level2 and have gained over 12yrs experience delivering everything from explosives to fuel to bread and paper. I have had an ADR licence 3 times and a hiab and an access reach platform demonstrator's licence- in the last 6yrs I have paid around £60,000 in tax by doing all the work I could so I've proven I am not idle and not against further education - in fact whilst I've been unemployed (through saying I wouldn't break the law) I've endorsed my O'level maths with an Adult numeracy level 2 and retaken health and safety at work level2 and passed both with flying colours. THEN- I visit my local job centre where they want to give me jobs that mean the government will have to pay me tax credits and we'll lose our house. I have 4 children and normally earn between 30 and 40g a yr so that I don't have to sponge off the tax payer- which being on the dole is exactly what I am doing- agreed - The job centre want me to take employment that I have no real experience in and pays half or less of the earnings I was used to and bred 4 kids on. I weren't claiming anything whilst at work and can't see how they think not being able to pay as much tax and on top sponging off the state too will help the country- GET RID OF THESE IDIOTS and give us some bloody job boards like we used to have! WELL! Best way to job search in small towns? I graduated last month with a paralegal degree. I moved back to the small town I'm originally from, and have not found any jobs at all, not even related ones. I've been looking in the local papers, job sites, talking to the few contacts I have. Do you think going to various law firms with resumes would help, or does that sound too desperate? Searching for jobs on Craigslist? So I've just graduated from a university in California and have begun the job search but I want to relocate so I've been looking deeply into local job listings on Craigslist which seem to have some very interesting leads in various cities across the country. The only problem is, when the employers reply to my email they ask if I currently live in those cities, and since I don't, I am not getting a second reply from them, even though I state that I am willing to relocate. They always say that they are looking for local people. What's up with that! How do I get around this? I don't want to move before I've landed a job!

Why is my job search unsuccessful? I moved to a new city, with the SOLE intent of finding an actual career and getting out of the "admin assistant" nightmare that my life has become. I have a Bachelor's degree and I have five years of AA experience but obviously I'm trying to branch out. I've interviewed with 2 creative staffing agencies providing them a design portfolio, application, etc. and responded to the various positions they email me but they won't follow up when I've contacted them. I've applied with 3 general temp agencies, same thing. This is now the third week I've waited! I've even put in an application with Whole Foods and a couple of retailers for p/t jobs out of desperation (mostly to have enough $$ to pay May's rent) and none of THEM have called me back. Seriously, what gives? I know that with the staffing agencies it can't be a matter of being too overqualified but I'm very concerned that it's due to not having local job history. Any thoughts?

Ive applied in numerous fields such as, banking, administrative/clerical, management, and social services. Finding a job as a photo retoucher? I am trying to find a job in photo retouching. I do a lot of different things with photoshop from colorization to airbrushing, object replacement/ placement, restoration, etc. The problem I have come across is that many of the photo studios in my location seem to either outsource their work to companies on the internet. I was just wondering if anyone else is having this problem? It also seems like for every one job posted on the net there is 3,000 people offering to do the restoration or retouch work. How to defend myself against my family? (they don't want me to move out for job)? I have been looking for entry level job in IT for months. Because I would be no longer around, my family would pressuring me to stay as there would be one less to pick up mother from work, drive to doctors, shopping malls or church. They like to guilt trip me and focus on worst case scenario if there is something that does not benefit them. In past they have treated such that I feel they only think whats best for them, not for me. Now going back to job search, its better to get job 500 miles away now that be still stuck for another weeks, months for local job search and struggle to pay bills. Thats one argument that would work. What else would? Should I wait until few days before I pack up (if I get job and I accept it)? Thanks for advice! P.S. I quit my last position (this was in Northern California) to work on our house to prepare for selling it and relocating to Seattle. I looked for another job in California for several months, and nothing. We moved up here to Seattle five months ago. I have applied for roughly 120 jobs (seriously, that many, maybe more) of all kinds. I am open to anything. I've applied for dishwasher, store clerk, any clerical position, as well as jobs more in line with my education and experience. THREE interviews. That's it. I've had my resume professionally looked at, and it was deemed fine. My cover letters, ditto. I'm on 4 local Internet job sites, and registered with 7 temp agencies. NOTHING. Any advice? Should I just move somewhere else? Anyone know of any prejudice against Californians in Seattle? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you

Which job search engine do people actually get call backs on? I have posted my resume on Careerbuilder, snagajob.com, a few local ones, and I have yet to receive ONE call back. I know there are jobs out there, and I have alot of administrative support and customer service, as well as some accounting experience, and I went to college for almost 2 years, yet I am having the absolute hardest time finding something!! Where would I go to search for jobs off shore? My husband is an electrical supervisor for a company out of Texas. He travels the US building Supercenter Wal Marts and Lowe's. How did these idiots get jobs as managers? In a local department store (I would name it but they'd come round and sue me) there are, to my knowledge, a teacher, a physics graduate, a zoology graduate and a social science graduate working as sales assistants on the minimum wage because they can't get any better job. It is very hard here (Scotland) to get any job, even cleaning or working on a check-out or burger flipping or any other rubbish, work-all-hours, minimum wage job. This department store just engaged two new managers who between them in their first week of work have, among other buffooneries, taken the chairs away from two perfectly competent and hard working staff, ordering them to stand all day. If there is any justice, this will trigger a walk-out and maybe a strike. (I don't work there, I have no interest in this except that of a disinterested observer.) So how do idiots like that get to be managers, when people with university degrees have to spend months searching for crappy jobs on the shop floor?
