Also, I know this isnt to do with the question, but if you join the army with a PHD can you become a psychologist for them too? Sorry that wasnt clear, I wasnt going to do both :P

I've been looking into working with search and rescue but doesn't look like anywhere pays. is it just a job that doesnt pay or does it depend on where you work? well the point i'm at in my life I need money to live. Coast Guard,Coast Guard Reserve, and military search and rescue job questions? So I went and talked to the Coast Guard Recruiter in my area and he stated that he only had a position in the Reserve currently for me. I am interested in being a Coastie for the water rescue. He stated that it is pretty standard for most Coast Guards to stay in once they get in and that keeps a low opportunity for others to join as enlisted or officer(I would be going in as enlisted). I've also heard that a lot of times there is a two year waiting list to become enlisted in the Coast Guard. Joining the other branches doesn't really interest me that much, not that there is anything wrong with them,I have nothing, but the utmost regard and respect for them. It is just that with my personality I don't feel like I could handle taking another person's life whether it be for self-defense or protecting this nation and I believe I would squander my physical abilities by not trying for something that requires those said skills. As a sidenote to tie into this, I am currently a Ocean Rescue Lifeguard and I am looking for something that goes along those lines. Is there anyone with info on being a Coast Guard Reservist, getting into the Coast Guard,or any other jobs in the other branches of the military that involves search and rescue. Any info would be welcome info. Thanks for your time.
What are the search and rescue careers in the National Guard? I was planning to go navy as a Search and Rescue Corpsman, but I came across the National Guard when I was browsing some military sites, and I saw that they do search and rescue. But unfortunately, I can't seem to find any websites that tell me what you do in the National Guard for SAR or what jobs there are. I would love to jump out of a plane, scuba dive, climb mountains, everything, I am an EMT-B and love it. Does the National Guard deploy? America's awesome, but I would like live in a different country at least once in my life. What types of SAR does the National Guard do? I've always been a water baby, so I definitely want to do water rescues, but I also love being in the air, and climbing, so I would alo want a flight medic type job also. Is there any Search and Rescue Jobs in the Guard that I can do all this? I would prefer if someone told me who has experience, or knows someone that does, but anyone's answer would be appreciated. Thanks!
Best way to find a Search and Rescue Career? I would like to do Search and Rescue as a main job. And by Search and Rescue I mean a group that is constantly training to stay in top physical condition for the job. I have always admired the Coast Guard, but I live to far inland. Any help?

How to become a search and rescue ranger? I was wondering what is the best way to get a job working as a search and rescue ranger? Would going back to college be the best or going into the military? Maybe ranger law enforcement school? I love the wilderness and backpacking and working somewhere in park services or a guide or something along them lines would make me enjoy my work. I'm willing to do what it takes to make my dreams come true. So any help putting me in the right direction would be a gift to me. Thank you all.
Different Search and Rescue, and Medical (flight medic?)Jobs that have special capabilities? I know about pararescue, but in the US Military, are there any other career fields that allow you to be a medic that gets into the heavy stuff here and there, in the heat of combat , or just up there in hasty situations? what about flight medics? or let me rephrase that. What path should one take if he wants to be a flight medic? What do flight medics do essentially? or whats another field other than Pararescue which takes lifesaving to a whole new level? srry if this question seems a little weird hey thanks...could I ask you a few more questions on 68w mos jeff? I would appreciate it.
Dose this letter sound ok to send to various animal rescue centers for job searching? Dear Sir/Madam: I am writing to let you know that I have finished my studies at Reaseheath College, with a double distinction in National Certificate in Animal Management. I am interested in finding a position as an animal carer where I can use my skills and knowledge I have gained during my time at Reaseheath College. Also to further improve my knowledge of caring for animals and to develop my customer service skills. I am writing to you to find out if you have any suitable available positions that you may consider me for. If you are aware of any associates or friends who might be looking for an employee with my skills and interests, please forward the enclosed CV to them. Regardless of whether you are able to help me in my job search, I appreciate your time in considering my request. Yours sincerely,
How do I become part of Search and Rescue, especially for rock climbing rescues? I have heard some things about a rock climbing instructor certificate, EMT cert., Wilderness First Responder cert., NASAR cert... is there anything else? Also if I have all my certifications, could I get hired to do it in one place for 6 months or less? I am in college right now and have most of the certifications and was wondering if I could take a year or so off and do that and ski patrol for a year before med/grad school. Or if Search and Rescue is a job reserved for career professionals.

What Kind of rescue jobs does the marine corps have to offer? Hi I live in Marysville OH, and I will be turning seventeen here in the next several months. I plan on joining the United States Marine Corps after high school and I was in the process of searching for an MOS to use on active duty. I would like a job that involves some rescue or something that more involves helping people I want to do anything I can to give to the world around me that will need my help. But what I mainly want to find is a job of rescue or something in that nature, something where my first priority would be to help the people around me instead of just going in guns blazing and blowing a bunch of shit up. The main reason I want to know is because I want the acceptance of my friends and family around me for doing something great. I want to know this because It would help me figure out what I wanna do but I already know that I love doing things for other people and helping out the others around me. Please help me with an MOS that Involves something of that nature. If anybody reading this is and enlisted Marine or has been please talk to me I'm all ears and willing to listen to anybody that can help me find a job.
What is your advice on both my Air Force career paths? Right now I'm finish up my associates in Humanities. I plan on getting a bachelors in Humanities. However before getting a bachelors I might sign up for Air Force Combat Search And Rescue, and go in enlisted. My main goal is to actually get my bachelors first and become an officer for the Air Force. However the search and rescue job seems like a plus in many ways, more than becoming an officer right away. Which of these officer jobs are involved with SAR http://www.airforce.com/opportunities/officer/careers/nontechnical/

Why are the Marines and Coast Guard branches? The Coast Guard is under The Department of Homeland Security. Looking at the jobs they do (maritime search and rescue, and law enforcement) why are the Fire Departments or Police Department not a branch also? The Marines are a department of the Navy that are infantry specialized into inserting amphibiously. Even though they do have tanks, planes, and helicopters, their function is to support the infantry. Why is the Army Airborne not a separate branch since they specialize in inserting from the air weather or not it is through parachutes, or air assault through helicopter landings? This is not a Army vs. Marine discussion. Also, no disrespect to the Marines or the Coast Guard, because they both perform excellent jobs and take their work seriously. I just was wondering.
Navy - Boatswain's Mate? I know when you first start the job of a BM you pretty much chip paint or assign it, but what do you do to qualify for the bigger, better jobs like search and rescue or driving the boats. How long may this take. I am going in next year with no rank, do I just have to make a good name for myself. What would be the best way to stand out as the best and most responsible. What should I say to the higher ranks to stand out as the one.
Search and Rescue Diving-Winchman? I am currently in the Royal Navy but when it comes time to leave would like to become a search and rescue diver/winchman. What jobs in the coast guard are exciting? Hi, I recently took interest in joining the US Coast Guard and I am unsure of what job(s) are available to me. I wanted to know which jobs in the Coast Guard involve search & rescue missions, catching drug runners and other similar tasks at sea. I took the ASVAB earlier today and my percentile score was 76. Is my score high enough for this type of job? Standard scores are GS: 51, AR: 58, WK: 56, PC: 57, MK: 55, EI: 63, AS: 49, MC: 51, AO: 68, VE:57 Thank you!
Help?! I want to enlist in the navy for search and rescue and need advice!? Let me start with this, I am wanting to join the Navy because I am tired of life. The thing is I'm too young to be this tired with life.I am 18 years old, and I waitress full time. I am currently in college, but feel like its the same as highschool. My biggest fear would be to get my engineering degree ( I do excellent at my school work) and then end up being an engineer with a boring job for the rest of my life. Its how my dad, an industrial engineering manager making around 100k a year, has lived the last 30 years.. BORED AND TIRED! and I dont want to just do that. I have been bored and tired my entire life and I want to do something out of the ordinary. I can more than afford school, but like I said I want this for me. I want the challenge, experience, and I want to be around the ocean. I need the navy for a transitional period, and mabye to help me meet some new people. THE NAVY IS WHAT I WANT! BUT IM NOT SURE WHICH PART OR HOW TO OBTAIN IT! Right now im not in the worlds best shape. I am not overweight or anything like that though. Do I have to be in the best phsycial condition while entering the navy to join Search and Rescue, or will they get me that way? I know the physical aspect (bootcamp) is like 3 months after signing up, and is that when I will be judged for rescue swimming, or will I have time after that to get my body where it should be? Furthermore, what branch of search and rescue would allow me to fly from state to state weekly and get out and do things. ( Specific Job abbreviation would be great) I want to be challenged mentally and phsycially. I also would like to make decent money. Right now, I am working on 4 college credits, but I am going to drop out of college to join the navy.. I know I would have to go to aviation school for 2 years first, but does that really help with the pay? I want these next four years to count for something. I do plan in 5-10 years to go back to college for engineering but for right now.. I feel like that is a death sentence. I just want to have some time feeling alive before i go back to being bored .. Maybe after the navy, I will enjoy the ease of everyday college life. Like I said specific examples of job would be great.. If you dont know what I mean by job abbreviation here is the list of them. ( all are listed at the bottom of page) http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq78-2.htm Finally, Some guy I knew graduated from aviation school, and works with Sar (search and rescue) claiming to make 45k a year with sign on bonus. He just graduated this year, and spent yesterday at work on a trip to texas and back. HOW?! I have asked him how! I dont know his specific job abbreviation, and neither does he, but I do not think this guy is an officer! I didnt think "aircrew" could make this kind of money, and I wont be able to talk to him again for a few weeks, does anyone have an idea of which route he might have taken? He also helps load carriers etc. Ive been told "aircrew" is the lowest form of life at the Navy by others, and Is there a way with education you can work up to a higher position that would let you jump out of planes, and see the world without being seen as dirt? I think this is rescue swimming, but I might be talking about the coast guard! Is the Coast Guard more reputable than the "aircrew" I am very confused! I would kill for recommendations, but please know I want to be in planes and based around water! Please help me! I talk to the recruting officer Wednesday.. I dont want to sound misguided. Here is a youtube video of what I want to do. I know this isnt everyday work for them, but it is part of the training I want to be part of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Sc2NQ-hxJc&feature=related I am talking about ocean search and rescue not combat..
We trained our Pit to be a bomb sniffer. What else can we do that exersizes his nose? A few years ago, my mom and I decided to start training our pure adult male Pit Bull, Chaos, to be a bomb sniffing dog. We would hide fireworks and flares around our cars and have them sniff them out and he got the hang of it in less than 5 minutes. Within 30 seconds, he can find the flare on the car. Also, a few months ago, my mom was at work and she was grooming this little black poodle, it was nighttime and so it was hard to see a little black dog. A customer accidentally left the door open and the poodle jumped off of the table when my mom was shaving its neck and so it got away. They looked for it for 3 hours and then they gave up and my mom went back to get Chaos. She had him sniff some of the dogs hair that got shaved off, and Chaos found the other dog in less than 10 seconds. It's been a few years since we trained him and he is still really good. I want to do some kind or bomb sniffing job or search and rescue but how would I go about training him and enrolling him in a program?
Is it tacky to wear an OHMR dress uniform to a formal wedding? My fiance Is in the medical detachment of the Ohio Military reserves. We've planned this big formal wedding and he wants to wear the dress greens that he wears for the OHMR. He's proud of what he does, but he doesn't carry a rifle around, he doesn't go overseas. His basic job is search and rescue and recoveries after natural disasters. And he only goes to drills one weekend a month. He isn't paid. It feels tacky to me and disrespectful to the people that do risk their lives for our country. I may be completely off base, and I won't tell him to change or anything... but I'm wondering if I'm completely wrong about this.
Search and Rescue dogs. Shiba Inu? I have a Shiba Inu dog, and I want to get into some work with him. I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience in training a Shiba Inu for scent work/tracking? I know that it is possible to train him, but would the dog actually do his job, or would he go and do his own thing? and I dont want any of that B.S. about how every dog is different, cuz I already know that.
Would you send search and rescue? I think I lost my mind. Today I broke all the dishes in the house, due to my spouse (the drunk) I was so pissed, all he does is get up every morning sat at the table and hung is head like a two year old. I feel like checking my self in to a clinic for wife's of drinking spouses, I hate him, he nothing but a stain on the wall to me, If they called and said he was dead I would be happy, I've thought of calling his job for them to know he drinks on his way to work. Help me let go of this and move on, Lost another job due to his mental abuse, 20 dollars an hour down the drain. I feel like I'm drowning help? One reason I lose jobs is because when I work I pay 2000 dollars of bills bi-weekly or they don't get paid so I purish him by quiting Lori you hit the nail on the head, but I can't say those things LOL
Search and Rescue dog handler/trainer is it something you can make a career out of? Basically reality has set in at the moment. I have just realised that i have ONE (or 2 if i stay on but it's still not that long) year of school left before i leave into the big bad world of work. I definitely want to work with animals, dogs specifically. I have always been interested in dog training and it's something i would really love to do as a career. S&R is something that i am really interested in and i've been looking things up on how to get in and what the job consists of and it's something, i've decided, that i'd really like to do. However, i'm unsure if i can actually make a career out of being an S&R dog trainer or if i would have to have another job on the side. Does anyone know? Also if you have any of you have information/experience with S&R work feel free to share it with me. :)
What can disqualify you from being a volunteer search and rescue/reserve police? I'm clean, no misdemeanors, felonies, not even a traffic violation or ticket of any sort.... however I have experimented with weed about 6-7 months ago... I do realize that this can prevent me from joining the regular police department seeing it was considered "recent" however, does it still comply with volunteer work? I'm just trying to get some volunteer work on my resume so I can get a job... and later become an officer... I'm 18 years old, just got out of highschool in june. ha, I never considered the foreign country possibilities... Correct, I am in the U.S, California San Diego to be exact.
what are us coast guard jobs? i have to do a career project in english and i want to go to the coast guard after high school and get a job doing that, but i dont know all the jobs that there are(im aiming at search and rescue or environmetal part of it).
What kind of job can I do that deals with Search and Rescue? I am wondering what kind of job I can do that deals with Search and Rescue. Now I have already looked into the Coast Guard, but I am disqualified because I have IBS. If someone could give me some names of some jobs that include Search and Rescue, I would really appreciate it.
What's your opinion of white German Shepherds? I know a lot of people don't consider them true German Shepherds, because they cannot effectively do what German Shepherds were originally bred to do (guard and herd sheep; a white dog would look like a sheep from a distance). However, a lot of people think they can still be useful, especially in jobs where it is important that people be able to easily see the dog, i.e. guide dogs, search and rescue dogs, tracking dogs, etc. So, even though the white German Shepherd isn't a true German Shepherd, don't you think it should still be considered a legitimate breed? (Yes, I know the AKC doesn't consider the white German Shepherd a legitimate breed, but, considering what they've done to true German Shepherds, that's kind of a blessing.)

what shud i do in the below case:? I am giving u a brief intro abt my friend family background & his problem: My friend is one brother[ram ] & one sister[saroj], , his father[rajesh] is bank employed [ govt. job ], mother [pratibha], a house wife but well qualified, his father[ rajesh ] always doing domestic violence with him & his sister when they are at the tender age & keep continue it ,he [ rajesh] didn’t pull their responsibitlty , mental , physical tortured, not letting them to study & , not giving money or food, Even day by day his father’s cruelity increased day by day, when ram & saroj becomes mature they decided to search the problem, one more thing if their mother[ pratibha ] tried to stop their father[ rajesh] , he use some symbolic language & physically & mentally tortured her also, even giving his mother[ pratibha ], ram & saroj wrong medicines so that their health deteriorate day by day, as a result , their mother become permanently ill, saroj & ram when become mature they decide to protest against all his fathers doing, first they applied for educational loan , somehow did some vocational course , search job in different city, keep their mother with them, now the situation is somehow under control, but his father is still dominate on them…..now –a –days ram & saroj have enough money to live their life happily but his father is engaged with some anti social elements & he always tried to extort money from them, they did n’t lodge a complaint because they were not very mature & even they cud not know what’s going on with them..actually his father[ rajesh] is a criminal I think, so he planned everything very nicely & put the plan into action very smartly…because their mother becomes ill & ram & saroj were so younger to handle all these things….his father [ rajesh ] has some gang also, so he also tried to raped pratibha & saroj , but saroj & ram rescued themselves & their mother by their courage. Ram & saroj also at this stage of time came to know that they are actually adopted but not legally.means ram & saroj are the children of his father’s cousin sister [manisha ] , he raped her sister by making her unconscious , & after one time , he black mailed her[ manisha ] to maintain the same sex relations again & again ,as a result ram & saroj borned .. when ram & saroj’s present mom [ pratibha ] i,e their step mom came to know abt his husband’s [ rajesh] doing, she decided to protest against her husband ,At that time she was working with some organization , but rajesh has black mailed her that if she open the mouth he will spoiled the life of two kids & their mother that mean rajesh’s cousin sister [manisha ]…..& and the circumstances changed rapidly rajesh tortured pratibha sexually, physically , mentally till that she totally lost her confidence but she [ pratibha ] make up her mind that she will give upbringing to the kids [ ram & saroj]…their real mother also becomes ill, & lost her mental balalnce … so no proofs are there to make a case against his father [ rajesh]…..time is going rapidly ,,,,situation become s out of control ,ram & saroj has now responsibility of their both the mother …..infact ram is also day – by day losing his mental stabitilty ….he is in depression , his condition is also not so good , so, that give s strength to his father [ rajesh ]to do wrong things with them , ,,,because now saroj is the only one who tried to maintain & control the situation… SOcan anybody tell me that what shud they do by legally point of view ,his father [ rajesh ] is very dangerous & have lot of contacts, & ram & saroj have the responsibity of both of thir mother [ pratibha & manisha]…..so what should they do Please help them////they really want support Thanking you all
Which should I choose? Recently I've been offered a job to be a survival consultant and instructor for various people. The job is basicly an outdoors shop and training area that teaches people how to climb and also allows them to by the gear, wether it be for kayaking or climbing or hiking. They wanted a survival expert in there though and they offered me the job. The other job offer I got is for Search and Rescue. I've been on the local volunteer Search and Rescue team in my area for a while now, and what ever job I choose, I'll always do Search and Rescue. But I was offered a job as a Search and Rescue master fulltime. I would get all this specialized gear, along with my own private helicopter and whenever their is a call in my current area (within 500-700 miles), I would go. I get to slowly travel America back and forth being called out. I love survival but Search and Resuce is almost the same thing. Rather than preventing people from hurting themselves, I'll be saving them. Does anyone have an opinions on what I should choose?

Can you advise me on choosing a job and branch in the military that best suits me? I scored high on my ASVAB (95) and am in the midst of the recruiting process. The Navy is my first choice, but I think I need to look at Air Force & Coast Guard, too. I really want to travel, and I want to be challenged. My main interests are photography, writing, foreign language, music, ocean conservation, and teaching. I'm a people person. Initially, the jobs that I am interested in are * Mass Communications Specialist (Photo/Video) * Fleet Diver Program * Air Traffic Controlman * Aircrew * Search & Rescue * CTI CTI's (Cryptologic Technicians Interpretive) are the Navy's linguists. If I do well on the DLAB, I could qualify to go to Defense Language Institute. That's exciting to me, but I wonder if I would enjoy it? I learned French in high school. I love foreign languages & cultures, am curious by nature, and very attentive to detail. I really want to travel. Based on this info, can you recommend jobs that I may be well-suited for? Is the Navy the right branch?
Be honest.....how many hours a day does your dog spend alone? Honest answers please..... Fact: The average dog owning family leaves the dog home around 8 hours a day.....the typical work day is 7 and half hours as is the typical school day.....No decent breeder will sell and no rescue will adopt out to a unemployed person with no income......It takes a full time job to support 1 person much less a family these days.....and remember not everyone can afford doggie daycare and/or to have a dog walker come in. (neither of those are necessary in taking care of your pet you can still be a good dog owner if you work) I have been at home with my dogs pretty constantly since the first dog was 9 weeks old.....now both dogs are around a year and I finally have made some headway in the whole job search (economy is awful) my husband works 7 and a half hours a day (not including commute time) and I hope to be working soon as well.....including commute time I would be gone 6 to 6 and a half hours a day 4 days a week......Do I want to leave the dogs....no......do I want to continue to give them the best of everything (food, training, healthcare) yes...... I'm just interested in seeing how many people do leave there dogs and how many don't...... I do believe when you are away so much you need to make each moment count with the dog....but dogs have a different concept of time than we do. Thanks add: remember dogs are animals and its not fair to say that if you can't spend every second with the dog than you shouldn't have one....a dog is still an animal (and a vital part of my family) It does help though that we take our dogs everywhere we can with us when we are off
I need help with lists of jobs.? Ok for homework I need to come up with 10 jobs that I would want to do and explain them. I have come up with 7 so far and they are 1. Animal physical therapist 2. Deep sea photographer. 3. Working for FEMA search and rescue 4. Owning a bakery 5. Scuba diving tour guide 6. Working for the K-9 unit in Washington DC 7. Navy or Air Force? Aviation Rescue Swimmer or Pararescueman/Combat Control? Forgive me if this is a little long, I'm trying to look at it from every angle. I'm set on joining the military but can't decide which branch. I want to help people, I like being very hands on, enjoy learning as much as possible (about any field), welcome new experiences, and would not mind if I had to face combat or dangerous situations. I'm 24 yo, in good shape, have a bachelors degree, love to travel, am very tech savvy, and just all around very diverse in interests. Pretty simple guy, don't need to be pampered with lavish life styles; no family, no kids or wife/gf. Currently I do not have a steady job. No, before you even question, that is not why I have resolved to military. Notice I said steady, not "no job". I've been interested in the military ever since I was in grade school. After tremendous amounts of soul searching and thought, this is where I want, and feel I am supposed to be. I did great on the ASVAB and was told by both branches I could basically have any job I wanted, long as it was available. I'm going to go enlisted, not officer, and currently I'm not looking to make the military a life career. I would like to serve my yrs, 6 as is mandatory for all spec ops, and if I really like it, perhaps then I'll make it a life career. That being said though, I am also interested in which branch has the faster advancement rate. My top three MOS pics were: Navy - Aviation Rescue Swimmer Air Force - Pararescue or Combat Control. Below I've tried listing the pros and cons to each position as from what I could tell through research, recruiters, and the limited known first hand experience contacts in the military. (AIRR) Rescue Swimmer Pros: - Get to travel a lot - Known as a shore based job, so you're not stuck on ship for months at a time - More diversified job training ~ Meaning you learn more than just rescue swimmer techniques, also learn a lot of AW duties pertaining to your type of helicopter. ~ Also can and do regularly assist in fire rescue and even at times combat support or enemy detainment - Helps with a lot of aid and relief; Katrina, Haiti. - Although very elite and physically demanding position, training seems to be easier than that of PJ or CCT (in terms of physicality). ~ I can currently pass the "in" PAST test with ease. - Even if I would fall out in the rescue swimmer pipeline somewhere, AW still seems pretty interesting. - $25,000 sign on bonus upon course completion. Rescue Swimmer Cons: - Heard there's not a lot of rescuing. ~ Most seems to be done by the coast guards. ~ The Navy recently posted something about advanced rescue swimmer school on their site. If anyone has info on this that would be great. - Enlistment process to become an AIRR is still a mystery to me. Recruiters continually change the process while my friend who is an AIRR tells me another completely different process from anything the recruiters said, but he's been in for a few yrs, so dunno if the process has changed. - Upon enlisting, my DOE to basic would be between 8 - 12 months. ~ "Could" get bumped up earlier for spec ops, but even IF that happens, still between 4 - 6. Pararescue Pros: - Upon enlistment, could leave for Basic within 3 weeks to a month after passing the "in" PAST test - Get to do pretty much all extreme sports; rock climb, scuba, parajump, etc. - Also help in relief efforts; Haiti, Katrina - Dude ...it's pararescue, that's just bad ass. - $17,000 sign on bonus upon completion of training. Pararescue Cons: - While in good shape, I'm not quite in PJ shape yet. ~ Am working on my distance run times, should see a significant improvement within 2, 3 months tops; at which point I'll be able to compete for PJ competitively. - Sole job is as a combat medic. Search and rescue. - Advancement in the Air Force seems slower compared to Navy. ~ Would be 36 months, possibly 30 until I would advance to E - 4. ~ Navy I would be an E - 4 after air crewman school, so about 6 months. - $17,000 sign on bonus compared to 25 - Besides Pararescue or Combat Control, there's not really any other job I would like in the AF. If I fall out somewhere along the pipeline ...? Combat control Pros: - Am trained on multiple vehicular transportation. - While I like team work, and am good with team structure, always worked better alone or in very small groups. - Other pros same as pararescue. Combat Control Cons: - Don't really save or help ppl. much, not that I'm aware of anyways. - Others same as pararescue cons. All three jobs seem really cool, and I feel strong pulls to all of them which is making it hard to select one over the other. While I am trying to leave asap, I also want to make sure, or at least "feel" as if I am ready for the challenge that awaits. Anyone who has inpu
Does anyone know of a Golden retriver rescue in New Jersey? I have been looking for a job where I can work with unwanted animals. I would really like to work with a Golden Retriver rescue group because I have a Golden myself, and I couldn't imagine life without him. I find Goldens to be very sweet, gentle, and basically fun-loving goofballs. I would be a volunteer, but I really need the money. Can anyone tell me of a rescue like this, in New Jersey? I've searched everywhere I could find on the internet, but all the places I found are located in another state. All answers will be greatly appreciated. Thankyou
What are the chances of getting a Job as a Pilot? Good Job? After attending schools like Midway Aviators, Phoenix East, or any others like that? I keep hearing that YOU need college degree+3-4000 flight hours to be hired by any major companies and/or Airlines <<is this true???? Will the Coast Guard , or Air National Guard be interested in a Pilot from those(or similar) schools ,,,,, maybe the P.A.C.???? I'm kicking the Idea of Army Warrant Officer Pilot training, BUT I don't want to go to war , and I definitely don't want to kill anyone ..... Help Protect the HOME (U.S.) from within the borders, shores, or do some Search and Rescue, now that is a great way to earn a paycheck ...+ Talk about job satisfaction!!!! I would like to hear from people who have or had experience in this sort of thing?! >>>>Thank You all for good answers in advance!!!!!!! I am hoping for the best........!!!
Why can't I find pokemon to be rescued in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team? I've taken the job (it's the only job I'm doin that time) and when i got to the floor, I checked the whole floor but couldn't find the pokemon. Then, I checked the mission objectives, it told that the pokemon was in the next floor. So I checked the next floor, searched for the pokemon in the floor but it was nowhere to be found. I checked the mission objectives but it says that the pokemon is still in the floor. Why is this happening?
Jobs for people with GEDs? FIRST OFF I'm not sure I'm going to get my GED. I would like to get my high school diploma but I'm not a school person. I try but it's not for me. So I've been thinking about getting a GED. I am interested in jobs that concern Wildlife and I am thinking of being a wildlife photographer and I'm thinking I could probably do that with a GED right? I've even thought about Search and Rescue, with a dog, for a career. Could I work S&R as a dog handler with a GED?
I need a List of Jobs? Ok for homework I need to come up with 10 jobs that I would want to do and explain them. I have come up with 7 so far and they are 1. Animal physical therapist 2. Deep sea photographer. 3. Working for FEMA search and rescue 4. Owning a bakery 5. Scuba diving tour guide 6. Working for the K-9 unit in Washington DC 7. What are the best jobs for college students to try out for in ANY service, that want to be reservists though? I want to serve as a reservist. Right now I have one more semester at my community college to get an associates. I'll leave with 65 credits or so. I figured I'd land E-2 or E-3 after basic training. But I'm gonna to be transferring to a 4-year college in a year and before that I plan on enlisting. The Coast Guard and Air Force appeals to me the most. As well as being a medic of some kind. I want to get the EMT training offered in basic training. I want to try out for the Search and Rescue program in the Coast Guard but I heard that they don't except many people. Let alone a reservist. I heard PJ's in the Army go through 24 months of training. But I hope to be finishing up my bachelors in that time. My time factor: I plan on doing basic training and what ever else needed within the months of February, March, April, May, June, July and early August in 2010. I plan on getting back home mid August so I can prepare for school. 26 weeks or so of training. It would be okay to finish early. The timing and organization of the next few months has become really critical. I'm on the right track. I only need to pick a job I can be as a reservist, with little qualifications. I'm also becoming a volunteer paramedic at my local EMS. It's offered to 17 year olds and older. Im 20. They train you there at the academy they have. I hope this applies in any way to your response.
question about navy SAR training and qualifications? I want to join the navy to be in SAR (search and rescue) aircrew. Ideally, id like to be a rescue swimmer but SAR aircrew works too. I am about as fit as your average guy. I am willing to work and train as hard as phyisically possible to to get the job I want, but i'm wondering if even with that mentality, can an average person go into basic training and be fit enough to train for SAR swimming, If not, what are some good air crew jobs, preferably helecopter aircrew.
Two future jobs on my mind. Little help please? Ok heres the deal. I'm currently 19 years old. I got two jobs on my mind and I cant choice what to do. Right now I'm a vol firefighter, grew up around it. But, I dont want to continue that was a full time job. I would like to stay a Vol. But my two biggest ones are, a police officer, or go into the coast guard. I want to become a police officer because my dad worked for the police dept, but not as a cop, but as a 911 dispatcher. But I grew up around cops. Nothing pisses me off more than going down the road and someone does something stupid and almost getting killed. But, Im also very good with helping with ppls problems. My other choice is the coast guard. I have always wanted to go into the coast guard since the end of 5th grade. It was on my mind big in middle school. In high school it kidda faded away. But now i work on a fishing boat which takes out tourist fishing. But, I just love being on the ocean. And I love being there in the time of need. Just like i am in the fire dept. The biggest thing that makes me double take the coast guard is, 1 there is a long wait. I have talked to the recruiter already he said alteast 1 1/2 - 2 years and its not even a grantee to get in. And 2 they can put you anyway they want, doing anything you want. I would like to do search and rescue, but im not sure if i would get that. But anyway, I understand that I will have to make the decision, but maybe you guys can give me a pointers. Also, If you dont like cops and if your going to say dont be a cop just because you dont like them, please dont waste your time and write back. SOMEone has to do the job. theres always a wise one haha But thanks guys
Bush knew Hurricane Katrina's devestating effects before storm hit New Orleans. How can we impreach him? March 1, 2006 Video Shows Bush Was Warned Before Katrina By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON (AP)—In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage. Bush didn't ask a single question during the final briefing before Katrina struck on Aug. 29, but he assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared." The footage—along with seven days of transcripts of briefings obtained by The Associated Press—show in excruciating detail that while federal officials anticipated the tragedy that unfolded in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, they were fatally slow to realize they had not mustered enough resources to deal with the unprecedented disaster. Linked by secure video, Bush's confidence on Aug. 28 starkly contrasts with the dire warnings his disaster chief and a cacophony of federal, state and local officials provided during the four days before the storm. A top hurricane expert voiced "grave concerns" about the levees and then-Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown told the president and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff that he feared there weren't enough disaster teams to help evacuees at the Superdome. "I'm concerned about ... their ability to respond to a catastrophe within a catastrophe," Brown told his bosses the afternoon before Katrina made landfall. Some of the footage and transcripts from briefings Aug. 25-31 conflicts with the defenses that federal, state and local officials have made in trying to deflect blame and minimize the political fallout from the failed Katrina response: —Homeland Security officials have said the "fog of war" blinded them early on to the magnitude of the disaster. But the video and transcripts show federal and local officials discussed threats clearly, reviewed long-made plans and understood Katrina would wreak devastation of historic proportions. "I'm sure it will be the top 10 or 15 when all is said and done," National Hurricane Center's Max Mayfield warned the day Katrina lashed the Gulf Coast. "I don't buy the `fog of war' defense," Brown told the AP in an interview Wednesday. "It was a fog of bureaucracy." —Bush declared four days after the storm, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees" that gushed deadly flood waters into New Orleans. But the transcripts and video show there was plenty of talk about that possibility—and Bush was worried too. White House deputy chief of staff Joe Hagin, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and Brown discussed fears of a levee breach the day the storm hit. "I talked to the president twice today, once in Crawford and then again on Air Force One," Brown said. "He's obviously watching the television a lot, and he had some questions about the Dome, he's asking questions about reports of breaches." —Louisiana officials angrily blamed the federal government for not being prepared but the transcripts shows they were still praising FEMA as the storm roared toward the Gulf Coast and even two days afterward. "I think a lot of the planning FEMA has done with us the past year has really paid off," Col. Jeff Smith, Louisiana's emergency preparedness deputy director, said during the Aug. 28 briefing. It wasn't long before Smith and other state officials sounded overwhelmed. "We appreciate everything that you all are doing for us, and all I would ask is that you realize that what's going on and the sense of urgency needs to be ratcheted up," Smith said Aug. 30. Mississippi begged for more attention in that same briefing. "We know that there are tens or hundreds of thousands of people in Louisiana that need to be rescued, but we would just ask you, we desperately need to get our share of assets because we'll have people dying—not because of water coming up, but because we can't get them medical treatment in our affected counties," said a Mississippi state official whose name was not mentioned on the tape. Video footage of the Aug. 28 briefing, the final one before Katrina struck, showed an intense Brown voicing concerns from the government's disaster operation center and imploring colleagues to do whatever was necessary to help victims. "We're going to need everything that we can possibly muster, not only in this state and in the region, but the nation, to respond to this event," Brown warned. He called the storm "a bad one, a big one" and implored federal agencies to cut through red tape to help people, bending rules if necessary. "Go ahead and do it," Brown said. "I'll figure out some way to justify it. ... Just let them yell at me." Bush appeared from a narrow, windowless room at his vacation ranch in Texas, with his elbows on a table. Hagin was sitting alongside him. Neither asked questions in the Aug. 28 briefing. "I want to assure the folks at the state level that we are fully prepared to not only help you during the storm, but we will move in whatever resources and assets we have at our disposal after the storm," the president said. A relaxed Chertoff, sporting a polo shirt, weighed in from Washington at Homeland Security's operations center. He would later fly to Atlanta, outside of Katrina's reach, for a bird flu event. One snippet captures a missed opportunity on Aug. 28 for the government to have dispatched active-duty military troops to the region to augment the National Guard. Chertoff: "Are there any DOD assets that might be available? Have we reached out to them?" Brown: "We have DOD assets over here at EOC (emergency operations center). They are fully engaged. And we are having those discussions with them now." Chertoff: "Good job." In fact, active duty troops weren't dispatched until days after the storm. And many states' National Guards had yet to be deployed to the region despite offers of assistance, and it took days before the Pentagon deployed active-duty personnel to help overwhelmed Guardsmen. The National Hurricane Center's Mayfield told the final briefing before Katrina struck that storm models predicted minimal flooding inside New Orleans during the hurricane but he expressed concerns that counterclockwise winds and storm surges afterward could cause the levees at Lake Pontchartrain to be overrun. "I don't think any model can tell you with any confidence right now whether the levees will be topped or not but that is obviously a very, very grave concern," Mayfield told the briefing. Other officials expressed concerns about the large number of New Orleans residents who had not evacuated. "They're not taking patients out of hospitals, taking prisoners out of prisons and they're leaving hotels open in downtown New Orleans. So I'm very concerned about that," Brown said. Despite the concerns, it ultimately took days for search and rescue teams to reach some hospitals and nursing homes. Brown also told colleagues one of his top concerns was whether evacuees who went to the New Orleans Superdome—which became a symbol of the failed Katrina response—would be safe and have adequate medical care. "The Superdome is about 12 feet below sea level.... I don't know whether the roof is designed to stand, withstand a Category Five hurricane," he said. Brown also wanted to know whether there were enough federal medical teams in place to treat evacuees and the dead in the Superdome. "Not to be (missing) kind of gross here," Brown interjected, "but I'm concerned" about the medical and mortuary resources "and their ability to respond to a catastrophe within a catastrophe."
Do you think mid-thirties is too old to become a female EMT Paramedic? I've been volunteering as an EMT-B for 15 years in Search and Rescue and Ski Patrol. I work as a Project Manager in my 9-5 job. I'm getting bored of that and would like to switch to being an EMT-P. I'm used to earning $80K to $90K/year as a PM, so it might be too tough financially depending on the hit. (I live in So Cal where my mortgage is outrageous [$3K a month] for a tiny house in a bad neighborhood). I’m afraid my only option is the Fire Department since I think they have a monopoly on the Paramedic work. What do you think? What do the Paramedics out there think? Thanks,
Any do or ever do EOD in the US Navy? Just past my Search and Rescue PST and now the trainer is asking me about going for EOD instead. Anyone know what the job specifications (What they do) are and if they have done it did they enjoy it?

Good training/behaivor books or DVDs? I dont have any problems with my animals, but i am interested in the subject. Of course im familier with Ceaser and that Victoria lady. I have had to train everyones dog i know and would be interested in possibly training professionally. I would enjoy helping people who think there dog has no hope, but i am really interested in training dogs for jobs. Such as service dogs, search and rescue dogs, drug dogs, seeing eye dogs, herding dogs, ect. Really just the whole act of working dogs has always fascinated me. I have always been good with animals and plan on attending vet school when i finish my undergrad. I dont have hardcore plans for the future i just kind of go with the flow. Any info on any of this would be helpful such as good books, DVDs, or ideas on breaking into the training world. Thank you.
paraphrase for me please? Almost all UAVs are military aircraft. Most of them are used for reconnaissance (exploration to gather information), although a few UAVs are armed with missiles. UAVs are employed when a piloted reconnaissance aircraft would run a high risk of being attacked or for very long missions that would exceed a pilot’s physical endurance. Often, a UAV is smaller and cheaper than a piloted aircraft designed to do the same job. In the near future, UAVs are expected to be used for civilian missions as well. The United States Coast Guard planned to use UAVs for search, rescue, and patrol operations. UAVs could also be used for aerial surveys and to inspect pipelines and power lines—jobs done today by piloted airplanes.
Why do some cops & jobs supposed to help u, judge you and care more about busting u/negatives, than helping u? Cops, rescue squad people, doctors, psychologists even....so many of them from my experience at least initially question you so intensely and are more interested in seeing if you're doing anything illegal, they judge you, they label you,and basically are more interested in their own agendas ad how they believe and see the world, and impose it on you, than helping you or anything else. First and foremost I'm going to adress cops, and then medicalfield, etc. Whenever I needed help from cops in the past, and this was yesterday, I was having a health problem crisis and was freaking out, and I called 911, and they showed up first. They kept looking through my car and searching for anything, items, pills, and were asking me all sorts of questions, were going back to their car to research the pills, and were more interested in the legal aspect, looking up my info.and things of that nature, than actually making sure I was okay or anything. I mean do these people have friends? Do they know what its like to be human, do they get l@id? I'm asking because they act like the most unlikeable people ever, so it's like who the heck would ever want to associate with them, off work? lol. Also then we add the medical industry, supposed to care about you and help you right? Yet they're more interested in having you sign paperwork and all of that technical stuff, and they all judge you too. they were laughing at me for being anxious, wanted to make sure i wasn't on any illegal drugs, and asked me where I lived, the exact location, all sorts of questions,..kept trying to almost accuse me of stuff like, do you smoke, do you drink, do you do this, do you do that...it's probably nothing, or its probably emotional, you probably messed up , you probably did this or that... I mean don't get me wrong..I know they're also just doing their job but they come across SO cold, cynical, judgemental, evil in a way, and like you really can't trust them. They make you more scared of THEM, than actually being there to help YOU. Why are they so indifferent towards YOUR needs? Oh and also in the past, they even gave me wrong advice, to benefit their friends. They'd tell me, oh hire my buddies to help your car or tow you, your people will take forever, or don't call AAA, call us, etc. They act self-interesed, push THEIR agenda over others. There's just so much corruption even within the fields supposed to protect you and care about you. WHY?
Any EMT's or Paramedics that can answer this? I was a supervisor of a search and rescue unit in the Coast Guard, I grew up in Argentina and speak fluent spanish, just got my Associate's Degree and now I'm about to get my certificate for EMT-I....do you think I'll have a hard time landing a job wherever I want in Georgia? looking around Gainesville Also- I start EMT-I classes this September...anything I can start studying or any advice?
Should I or shouldn't I? My local pound has a German Shorthaired Pointer that is in danger of being euthanized this week. The problem is we already have 3 big dogs, 2 of mine and the other is my boyfriend's. Mine are in training for Search and Rescue, and from what I have read the GSP is good for this job too. Do I rescue him or leave him there? I am wondering if I could work with him to make him more adoptable, or keep him as a search dog if he shows the inclination. Problem is my bf says no more dogs (i'd have to 'find' this one!). We live in the country so there is no restriction on how many dogs we can keep, other than the amount we can handle. We have a 2 acre fenced yard. My thinking is that either he will see that an extra isn't so bad, or we will both agree that #4 needs rehoming. Our dogs might not like him for some reason. In the meantime I can feed him up and get him in good condition, and work some of the kennel frustration out of him as these dogs need to run, so that he is more appealing to a new owner. The SAR group are a bad influence! One couple has 6 German Shepherds. The dog was found as a stray a couple of months ago, and adopted out, but the new owners turned him in because they 'found a better dog elsewhere.' He doesn't look too appealing at the moment because he is hyperactive from being in a kennel, and is underweight.
Navy Seals or Air Force Pararescue? Hi all, I am trying to decide on Seals or PJ's. Firstly, I know the jobs are very different. PJ's are search and rescue and Seals do all kinds of missions, demo, counterterrorism, etc...From what I am reading it seems like Seals do mainly insertion via water, sub, SDV, zodiac. PJ's probably do more parachuting than seals and prefer to reach the target by air if possible? I hear the Air Force has a higher standard of living and more women, ;-) haha. PJ's probably do more mountaineering. The PJ pipeline is longer. SEALs have Hell week and are probably cold and miserable more often than PJ's. PJ's now only have Hell night. Both jobs are dangerous though I would suspect that since pj's are going to rescue someone often already in harms way, that their job could often be tougher. Does one group get to travel more than another? Much of this is speculation. Any input from people in the know would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading this long post! Chris Cool, just found this out: Effective 1 October 2006, the Navy has designated SEAL as its own rating. Therefore specific source ratings are no longer required to become a SEAL. In other words, new recruits can attend BUD/S without first attending an A-School in a specific rating. So basically you can get the Seal Challenge in your contract and be Guaranteed to try out!
Joining the navy and a little worried...? Alright I'm worried about actually getting in the navy. I took my asvab got a 46. I'm worried that I won't pass the physical though. What does the physical consist of? What will get me disqualified? I don't do drugs, so that's definately not a reason for me to be disqualified. Plus being a female I've been told my jobs are very limited especially with my score. I know I can't become a corpsman/nurse. Could I do search and rescue? Firefighting? Or anything actually fun?
A question about my dog Suza? I was told when I got this dog that he is a Shepard Chow mix- agree or not? He is smart, learns commands quickly & loves to show off when he can- especially for children. But once on a job- he's all business until we get back home. He's being trained for security work. I won't train him for drugs or EOD. If he passes the tests, I may train him for search & rescue. http://a333.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/128/l_b78ddca5de9199e989255e4f2fc505dc.jpg He's got the purple splotches on his tongue & roof of his mouth typical of Chows. I had a Blk Lab/Basset Hound mix ( I'd still like to know which breed was the male & which was the female for that combo) & he didn't have any splotches. New Photos http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/21/l_a24215840a764c7baf39da05849ef44d.jpg You can't see it in this photo, but he has a curly tail. The photo makes him look like he has a bobtail. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/30/l_88a42487dfa44cfaaaaafac2494e876e.jpg

The U.S. needs to re-vamp it's Disaster Response? With our National Guard units involved in combat operations and training away from their home states, we are very vulnerable to disasters. There is a solution called DMAT teams which are great in theory but are operationally ineffective. These teams were concieved in the idea that health and safety professionals could respond to disasters and function as a search, rescue and medical teams. The only problem is that members aren't paid (EMS and Firefighters usually cant afford to go off for a month) and their is no job protection like that afforded National Guard personnel. The National Gurad units coming from neighboring states to help with tornado damage shows we have a problem and it needs to be fixed. I am not trying to lay blame because this problem existed long before the current administration. That is my two cents worth but what do you guys think? What else can be done to help improve our response? Do you think Congress should get involved?
Coast Guard Questions Please Help!!!? sorry this is going to be long, but our decisions now could effect the rest of our life. I just want to make sure we make the right ones. Please help! A little background: My husband is thinking about joining the coast guard. He is 27 with a bachelors degree. He has already taken the ASVAB and qualified for all jobs. I know some recruiters will tell you anything to get you to join or try to lead you in certain directions. I just want to make sure we are making the best choices. Questions: 1. If we are married with a little girl, do we have to live in base housing if it is available? Will we get the BAH if we live off base? 2. They told him he would go in at E-3 and after A school be an E4. Does that sound right? Is going in at E-3 set for anyone with a degree or could he negotiate for a better pay grade? 3. If he is an E-4 what kind of life can he expect? By that I mean, how will he be treated, how is the benefits, advancement opportunities, etc..? 4. He is very athletic (played college football) and likes things that are hands-on. I could see him in search and rescue or something like that. They told him the A schools were open for electricians, machinery techs. and OS specialist. Would he be better off going into a field where the A school is open or doing something else? What kind of job do you think he would enjoy (again he qualified for all jobs on ASVAB)? 5. He is also interested in officer school since he has the degree. Would he be better off to apply for it and then enlist if he's accepted or enlist and then apply for it? We just want to figure out the best opportunity for him to get in. Thanks so much for your help.
If you were a firefighter, what job would you want? WHY that one??? Would you want to be the HOSE person (putting out the blaze), ROOF person (cutting & axing holes through the roof for ventilation), HYDRANT person (opening the hydrant and connecting all of the hoses in a quick amount of time), or the SEARCH & RESCUE person (one who goes in with several others to conduct searches for trapped civilains while under very harsh conditions)??? WHICH POSITION WOULD YOU CHOOSE & GIVE A GOOD REASON WHY "THAT" POSITION AND NOT THE OTHER ONES... The person with the best reason shall win...

Navy Corpsman, Army Medics, And air force medics? Is being a Navy corpsman more exciting than being an army combat medic? what opportunities do navy corpsman have that army medics wont have? what about the army medics? can navy corpsman become flight medics? can navy corpsman go out on search and rescue missions? what about the army? now the AIR FORCE. Does the air force have medics? what is the job called? because i have looked through there jobs and i can't find medic in there enlisted job lists? What the diff between navy corpsman and Air Force medics? do air force medics preform medical treatments while flying? Basically, i want to know what the air force medics are called too, because i can't find medic jobs in the air force enlisted job page. what is that job called. what opportunities do air force medics have?
Flashbacks to an accident? I'm a volunteer in my town's rescue service, have attended a fair share of mishaps, from flood/storm damage incidents to fires, searches, road accidents and miscellaneous rescue incidents. I love my job and it's generally positive. But about 11 months ago, I went to one I won't ever forget - what started as a nondescript call from local police for "general assistance" at the railway lines at about 8pm. Upon arrival we were quietly informed the truth - that to put the incident diplomatically, it involved a pedestrian and a train and obvious outcomes (he had jumped in front of it). To spare the detail, it was the most horrific thing I've ever seen and though I won't forget it, I dealt with it. However, it's nearly a year later, I hadn't thought of it for ages and all of a sudden I had a vivid dream just now (it's 12:30 am where I am) that I was back there...reliving it all. How can I deal with these flashbacks? They're so strong and make me feel sick all over again...
Please read and tell me what you honestly feel, (i did not write this)? Firefighters poem WISH YOU COULD... I wish you could see the sadness of a business man as his livelihood goes up in flames or that family returning home, only to find their house and belongings damaged or destroyed. I wish you could know what it is to search a burning bedroom for trapped children, flames rolling above your head, your palms and knees burning as you crawl, the floor sagging under your weight as the kitchen beneath you burns. I wish you could comprehend a wife's horror at 3 a.m. as I check her husband of forty years for a pulse and find none. I start CPR anyway, hoping against hope to bring him back, knowing intuitively it is too late. But wanting his wife and family to know everything possible was done. I wish you know the unique smell of burning insulation, the taste of soot-filled mucus, the feeling of intense heat throughyour turnout gear, the sound of flames crackling, the erieness of being able to see absolutely nothing in dense smoke - sensations that I have become too familiar with. I wish you could understand how it feels to go to school in the morning after having spent most of the night hot and soaking wet at a multiple alarm fire. I wish you could read my mind as I respond to a building fire, "Is this a false alarm or a working breathing fire? How is the building constructed? What hazards await me? Is anyone trapped?" Or to an EMS call, "What is wrong with the patient? Is it minor or life-treating? Is the caller really in distress or is he waiting for us with a 2x4 or a gun? I wish you could be in the emergency room as a doctor pronounces dead the beautiful little 5 year old girl that I have been trying to save during the past twenty-five minutes who will never go on her first date or say the words, "I love you, Mommy" again. I wish you could know the frustration I feel in the cab engine, the driver with his foot pressing down hard on the pedal, my arm tugging again and again at the air horn chain, as your feel fail to yield right-of-way at an intersection or in traffic. When you need us, however, your first comment upon our arrival will be, "It took your forever to get here!" I wish you could know my thoughts as I help extricate a girl of teenage years from the mangled remains of her automobile, "What if this were my sister, or a friend? What were her parents' reactions going to be as they opened the door to find a police officer hat in hand?" I wish you could know how it feels to walk in the back door and greet my parents and family, not having the heart to tell them that I nearly did not come back from the last call. I wish you could feel my hurt as people verbally, and sometimes physically, abuse us or belittle what I do, or as they express their attitudes of, "It will never happen to me." I wish you could know realize the physical, emotional and mental drain or missed meals, lost sleep and forgone social activities, in addition to all the tragedy my eyes have viewed. I wish you could know the brotherhood and self-satisfaction of helping save a life or preserving someone's property, of being there in times or crisis, or creating order from total chaos. I wish you could understand what it feels like to have a little boy tugging at your arm and asking, "Is my Mommy okay?" Not even being able to look in his eyes without tears from your own and not knowing what to say. Or to have to hold back a long-time friend who watches his buddy having rescue breathing done on him as they take him away in the ambulance. You know all along he did not have his seat belt on- sensation that I have become too familiar with. Unless you have lived this kind of life, you will never truly understand or appreciate who I am, what we are, or what our job really mean to us. I wish you could... I want to be a firefighter so much that when i read this i want to be a firefighter that so much more, also it brings a tear to my eye if how underestimated firefighters are
This concerns my career and personal life. I am tired and confused. Need honest and sensible advice pls.? I do disaster mgt. including emergency relief, search and rescue etc. Worked during riots, earthquakes, cyclones, flood etc. I luv my work; try to help people in distress. Receiving a smile or a hug from them is the best reward one can get. If and when I do get a chance to revist them, I am received with open arms -much more satisfying than being paid a million dollars. I do however get a good salary. But I'm exposed to dangerous situations - been face to face with death already. I have to be exposed to dangerous situations for prolonged period. This has lately affected my health. I also have a truncated social life; few friends, no girls wanna come close. ! But I luv my work - the challenges, thrills & satisfaction of work well done. This is driving me crazy. Should I change job or prepare myself for the occupational hazard and dedicate my life to work? I'm otherwise a cool guy who can "think" during crisis time. Tell me how can I keep doing my work and have a decent social life?
Job suggestions? I've recently been considering going to either the army, air force, or coast guard but don't quite know which is the better choice. I really want to do a lot of jumping and I was considering pararescue apprenticship [it's jumping and search and rescue kind of stuff] which I unfortunately found out is only for guys Can anyone suggest something where i could do a lot of things in the air [not to big in actually flying] or anything rescue involved?
coast guard job? i'm thinking about joining the Coast Guard after getting out of the Marines 2 months ago. I'm wanting to be a gunner's mate. Any personal experience on the matter? What did you like least and most about it? What about search and rescue?
How can i get hired as a firefighter? I'm dead set on becoming a firefighter. However, its hard to get hired as one when you need to be a resident of where ever your applying to. This means i would have to move to a different city, find a mediocor job, live there for 4-6 months... then hopefully do well on the exam. The city i live in now wont be hiring anytime soon due to finacial issues. Searching for firefighter jobs on the internet gets you no where! What can i do? Where can i apply that there will be no residency requirement? I am NYS Firefighter-1 certified, NYS Rescue Technician certified, along with a list of other courses. I'll be an EMT-Basic by December.
What is your breeds purpose?? Every purebred dog was once bred for some reason. Each breed developed had a purpose-a job. Today most of these breeds no longer have a job as they were replaced by machines and technology-but they are still being bred. Can you tell me what your breed was originally bred to do? Can you tell me what your breed is bred for now? Example: My breed-German Shepherd Dog. The German Shepherd breed was invented by "Captain Max" von Stephanitz in 1899. The GSD was originally conceived as a sheep-herding dog. They were then used extensively by German forces on the Western front during the first world war. Today GSDs can be found working as guide dogs for the blind, police work, guarding, search and rescue, therapy and in the military. They can be used in almost any dog sport including but not limited to -agility, obedience, Schutzhund, disc dog competitions....Despite their suitability for such work GSDs are also exceptional family dogs. Excellent everyone! What a variety. This is exactly what I was looking for. And I can tell you....I'm learning quite a lot!!!! I have learned so much from this question and I hope that others have too. Because I received so many wonderful answers, I am having a lot of trouble choosing which is "best". I personally don't believe that there is a best answer to this question!! -Abby with her Whippets and Italian Greyhounds -Loki with her Siberian Husky and Dachshund -YoLO with her Australian Shepherds -Jordan with her Dobermans -Golden Gal with her Golden Retrievers -Berner Mom with her Bernese Mtn. Dogs -Chetco with the regal Afghan Hound -Dog Daze with the Rottweiler -Bassetnut with her Basset Hounds -And so many more!!! There were so many great and informative answers here. These are the ones that stood out to me the most. Now I'll do something that I rarely do- I'll let the Yahoo Community decide who gave the "best" answer. Thank-you everyone for teaching me and many others about your breed. I appreciate it :-)
joinging the coast guard...? im 16 turning 17 and ive decided i want to join the coast guard to be in search and rescue like being a rescue swimmer or something . my parents sayy its only a phase and because i saw the movie the guardian but i told them i wanted to join before how do i know or how do i decide that im really serious about joing the coast guard as a real jobb ..and how can i let my parents know that im serious about joining ..[DO YOU THINK ITS TOO EARLY FOR ME TO DECIDE DOING THIS JOB AT MY AGE ???]..HELPP HELPPP!!!! just saying that the way i type has nothing to do with being mature or immature.
asthma question? so today we had to do a search and rescue (practice), in the camp I'm working in, and I have asthma. and we just kept having to dive and search continuosly in a swmapy lake, and I didnt want to say I couldnt do it or that I have asthma because the job is intense and they would say we could get another lifegaurd, but I felt like I was going to go under because I was so out of breath, and when I got out my chest felt really tight and it still hurts to take a deep breath. I already overdosed (5 puffs) on my albuterol inhaler. Any advice? its hard to take a deep breath langoori, first of all thanks for the advice. yea my dream is to be a doctor, my dad's a dentist and i am in his office a lot, i could have his amazing practice if i want but it doesnt intrest me, and eyes are the only thing that grosses me out, so i guess my intrests in medicine is very diffrent from your, but yea its going to be a lot of work, hard work but i believe it will all be worth it in the end. I am intrested in emergency medicine, but not sure becuase no connection with patient, but than I am not on call, so maybe, I was also thinking of a pediatric speciality such as a pediatric cardiovasuclar surgeon or pediatric pulminolgist (from all my knowledge and personal experience of respiratory diseases). My bro's in med school and hes probally going into ob-gyn, but its not for me. I still have plenty of time to decide my specialty. Thanks again and good luck.
