Find Executive Management Jobs Knowledge Base
What is the best place online to find construction jobs? My husband is a construction manager with a commercial general contractor and seeks employment in the USA. This is his first time seeking online for construction management jobs or executive construction jobs. There are many job boards but which offer the best for construction employment opportunities?
How did you find your job? I have over 15 years of very successful Sales/Sales Management/Executive Management experience and need to start looking. I am currently working and don’t want my employer to know I am looking. My thoughts are to blast my resume to some of the big companies in my area, that kind of thing. I don’t have much confidence in Monster or the newspaper. I have to be careful how many people I tell I am looking in my circle because; it will get back to my employer. So back to my question, how did you find your job, any ideas for me?
How to find a good IT Executive Recruiter? I recently resigned as an experienced IT Program/Project manager in a big consulting firm. I am located in Dallas,TX. I am looking to find atleast an equal or better IT management opportunity. I know that most of these positions get filled thru networking or executive/management recruiters rather than by applying from career websites (like Monster, Hotjobs etc). In my current job search I want to work with a recruiter. The problem is how do I find one of the best out there? Could somebody who has done this help me out. Thanks in advance.
What are the best websites to find employment in Account Management? Hello, I was recently laid off from my position as a Senior Account Executive for a technology company. I'm not having any luck finding a position or getting a response from Craigslist or Monster. Any good websites I should visit? I'm looking for a job in San Francisco, Phoenix, Seattle or Denver. Thank you!
For people who work in management at corporations & are single. Do they hassle you about that? I get hassled? Technically it is discrimination but what can you do? You can't file personal grievance as no one else will hire you. I find all companies want people who are married with kids in their management jobs as they find them more stable. I find that pretty incredible when you consider that most men who visit prostitutes are married men! And most men that visit domanatrixes are high powered professionals who work in management, especially at executive level! Yet they are all considered more stable than a single person, despite the fact that some of them have terrible marriages & only stay in them to make things look good for themselves professionally, etc. I've found it's really in the last 3 years that I've been hassled about it so I'm thinking there's a change in the Human Resources industry towards single people, or perhaps it's just that I'm now in my late 30's & maybe that's the age that people get hassled about still being single. It's no coincidence as it's happened to me at 3 different companies now. One of them I'd been working in for 9 years & during my last year I got so many rude comments about my single status that I had had enough & I quit, only to find the next company did the same thing as they didn't like single managers either (they were very suspicious about what I did in my spare time - even though there was no reason to be). So I quit that job after a year & guess what? Same thing with the third job! Got hassled again. It's like they're trying to make me feel uncomfortable in the hope that I'll quit as they really don't like single people in this place. ALL their staff are married with kids, including people who are only in their early 20's so it's very obvious to me that they have purposely selected married people. I dodged the question in the interview when they asked me about my partner as I thought it was inappropriate & knew they wouldn't hire me if they found out I was single. But because of my age I think they assumed I would be married or in a long term defacto relationship. The workplace sucks these days. I'm trying to come up with a way of being self employed as I've had enough. There's nothing wrong with me or my single status & if they can't accept me as I am then they can go to hell. Er, Lamont, is this one of those things where if I click on the link & register then you get $$ from my having clicked on it? I think it is.

I have an Industrial Engineering Degree. I want to be an Executive Assistant. 131 IQ.? I have 2.5 years Office Management experience in a small Chiropractic Clininc that is actually my brother-in-law's practice. I would never tell the companies that I apply to that he is my brother-in-law. I am a genius (131 IQ) and can learn any industry, and in 2.5 years I have mastered the Chiropractic insurance industry. I actually know everything that anyone can know without actually treating the patiens (I even give Chiropractic adjustments to my doctor). Point is, I can be valuable in any industry, but in 4 months I cannot find an office management or executive assistant (WHAT I REALLY WANT) job in Manhattan, NY. I had my resume professionally done 3 weeks ago. I am pulling my hair out. I feel worthless and that I got the wrong degree. Should I just kill myself??
How can I apply for a management-level job with a US company that would like to open an office on Guam? With the plans for the federal gov't to relocate 15,000 US Marines to Guam from Okinawa over the next 5-7 years, Guam is going to be ripe for more US businesses to set up shop and capitalize on all the potential business. As a US territory, we enjoy many US based businesses already, including KMart, Hard Rock Cafe, TGI Fridays and more. Plans include a Home Depot to open later this year as well as a Ruby Tuesday's restaurant. I am interested in working for any other major company that would like to consider Guam as their next overseas venture. I am a strong planner, manager, communicator, and have very strong organizational skills. Currently I work as an executive director and am looking for better opportunities. I live on Guam and can't seem to find a way to find companies who are recruiting employees to assist them in opening a location here. Can anyone help me with this? I am sure there are potential businesses out there that would love to consider Guam for more profits.
I am a college grad who cannot find a job in marketing. Please give some tips on what I could be doing wrong.? In 2004, I graduated from USF with a BS degree in Marketing. In 2006, I graduated from AIU with a MBA in Business Management. For some reason, I am still having difficulty finding a job. It seems as though, all companies want every candidate that applies for their openings to have many years of experience. Please explain how do you obtain experience if no one hires you. I have know I will be a successful marketing executive one day. It is just a matter of time when someone will give me a chance to use my strengths to help their company grow. I would like to hear the point of view of experienced professionals, hiring managers, and college graduates who may have experienced the same problem. I live in the Tampa Bay area and hope that someone responding to this situation can help me secure a career with their growing company or give me tips on what I need to change to look more attractive to other employers. Thanks in advance.
I've been in Livonia, Michigan for 2 months now and have had NO LUCK with finding a job. Help!? I'm originally from Los Angeles and built an extensive career in the retail banking industry (executive management/training) and have been met with such dismal failure in finding a decent job here in the southeastern region of Michigan. I understand the job market here is somewhat dead, however can someone PLEASE shed some light as to which resources are the best in terms of finding a solid job that pays over $15/hr or a salary of $35K and above? Are there any good companies around here that I can actually walk into, hand in my resume and meet with someone?
Can anyone recommend an employer that is currently hiring IT or banking staff without a background check? Unfortunately stupid choices in my teen years resulted in felony convictions for bad checks. This is not a representation of my current moral character and I have successfully held employment in both the financial and information technology areas since the conviction. I also have executive level management experience. None the less, I find that in the current job market, the conviction seems to be more of an issue than previously. Any suggestions on companies that value the employee over the background check? I am willing to relocate nationally, and am willing to accept a lower starting salary to get my foot in the door. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Is the construction jobs outlook improving? Unfortunately we have found in interviewing hundreds of our construction clients that construction jobs for senior managers will continue to be down for 2010, and will likely not return until 2012. University of Toronto Business School? I want to attend Rotmans School of Management and I'm in Grade Twelve. I'm kind of conflicted because they offer a BCom degree, but in that degree you can focus either in Accounting, Management, or Finance. The thing is I really want to become a police detective, and I just want to get a BBa or BCom degree to fall back on if I can't find a job in law enforcement. However, If do fall back to this degree, I always wanted to be in a leadership/executive position such as COO, and so forth. My Questions are 1) Would specializing in accounting still allow me to get executive positions. 2) Would specializing in management decrease job opportunities rather than accounting or finance. 3) Entry Salary of Accountants, and Management field? 4) Entry Level jobs of Management field?
should I tell the truth during job interview? Should I tell during my interview that I was asked to leave the company last December? I still can't find a decent job since then. I was an operations executive in a shopping mall when sacked. I have Bsc in facilities management.

What is the scope of MS in management in USA? Is this slander or just gossip? Earlier this year, I was laid off of my job as a bank manager as part of a massive reorganization of my bank. It was fairly amicable between myself and executive management. However, it's come to my attention from several sources (customers and peers at other institutions) that a former co-worker is openly speculating that there was more to my termination...and even volunteering this information to my former customers and peers both inside and outside the company. Obviously, there's an emotional sense of betrayal, but I also think this may have affected my ability to get a new job. In a small city (20,000 people +/-) you don't have to spread rumors to many other banks to affect someone's ability to find a job in the industry. Is this slander? 1. I was eventually able to find a job 35 miles away, but had to leave the banking industry and take a commission-based job with a brokerage firm. 2. The coworker in question had no access to the details of my termination, therefore any discussion he may have is as a result of his own speculation and imagination.

More workload - not more pay? In February my boss decided to move me up to a processor. I happily took on the responsibility. I asked in May about when I would receive my salary increase - she said she'd look into. Now I find out that our executive management won't allow the increase due to budget constraints. But they happily hired 3 more people after promoting me and have 3 temps working in our office. Maybe I'll get the raise next year but what can I do today? If I complain to HR I'm afriad they'll scale back my work so that I'm not working the processor job but back at the admin level. What do I do?

Ladies do you find a man with an unbuttoned collar or buttoned up with or without a necktie more attractive ? And I believe the suit and tie instills an image of dominance and control as I well know as my job entails management and administering discipline in a large office setting that requires an executive to always wear dark suit, white shirt and solid color necktie. On day's off wearing casual attire it's obvious my presence is taken in stride. Rarely,a female will wear a tie with her suit and her presence is most revered and personally admired as very attractive by myself and other co-workers.
Why does the NWO/Satan's Secret Society work together to get Christians fired from their jobs? Why do they keep there organization so secretive? Is it so they can work together to achieve their Satanic agenda? Does the N.W.O. secretly use there members in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government to try and control and manipulate people who find out about there underworld satanic mafia even to the point of terrorizing them? Why do they make every effort to establish there members in management positions in the work force? Is it so this satanic mafia can secretly manipulate and control people through threats of termination, or disciplinary action? Has this luciferian underworld government placed occult paraphernalia into society in the form of games and or practices to place people into spiritual bondage / captivity to witchcraft / demonic forces Revelation 13, 10? Is this one more way to enslave and control society? Is it through said spiritual bondage that victims are being forced to go through the Illuminates secret ceremony / initiation performed through Transcendental Meditation assisted with witchcraft? This is where witches through telepathy inform the victim that they must choose to worship one of the NWO’s many “Gods”. One of there God’s is the Devil, another they call Jesus, but they seem to have a demon for every occasion? What better way is there to join all religions of the world together under one banner of 666? What better way is there to work under the banner of secrecy and conceal deception and evil? Has this secret society used its members to make false accusations against you to get you fired from your job? Have they threatened you or your family members if you won't join, except one of their many demons, and keep your mouth shut? Have they used drug dealing cartels to terrorize you in your neighborhood and your family? When law enforcement is notified do they perform their duty as servants of the people or do they shine you of with rude comments acknowledging their affiliation with the "Free" Mason? Have you run into the NWO / Nazis Within the Order / Satan’s Secret society? Did you receive your spiritual stamp 666 and one way ticket to horror and pain for eternity? Their handing them out, in fact they try and insist that you take it. Myron Fagan gives a 2.5 hour speech exposing the Illuminati. Wake up America!

Should we do something about Psychology majors? Despite what some people think, today's news makes it clear the US job market is incredibly tight for people with useful skills. See this quote from a CNN-Money article: "I'm hearing across the board, across industries, companies indicating they can't exploit market opportunity because they can't find people with the right skills," said Jeff Summer, an executive at Deloitte Consulting who leads the firm's management practice. He said that there's virtually no long-term unemployment for skilled workers. "It's down to the nub already," he said. "Supply and demand is completely out of whack." ----- How do we encourage young Americans to BECOME skilled workers, instead of wasting their brainpower majoring in Psychology or Marketing? (uh, no offense intended...) That would make the economy more productive. Is there something out there interfering with free market incentives, or are people just stupid? OK OK just kidding about Psych majors ... really just wondering what can we do, and should we do things, to guide people to hot labor sectors. If natives don't do it, either work goes undone (and money is not made), or immigrants must be brought in. (Full disclosure: I was an English Major!)
MBA in Operations vs Marketing for IT(SAP) professional? I have 8 years of experience in IT industry on ERP (SAP) with exposure to Technical (ABAP-programming) and various functional areas like HCM, Logistics, Matt Management (though NOT expert in either of them).I have worked in IT(SAP) Consulting, Product development at (SAP Labs) and also implemented SAP(HCM) at customer site. Since last 3-4 years my involvement has been more at middle mgmt level - on Project execution, Team and Delivery Management. I am currently pursuing Executive full time MBA from a reputed B school at Pune and need your advice in weighing the value I derive by either opting for Marketing or Operations as a specialization. I will briefly list out my limited understanding about the career progression w.r.t. both these specialisations: Operations: 1.(++)I can leverage my ERP knowledge and Project management skills to take up senior management role. 2.(+)I can move to Business consulting/Pre Sales role with my ERP background. (-)Only hiccup is that I have breadth of knowledge, but lack specialization in a specific industry vertical 3.Are there any other avenues suitable for me? Marketing: 1.(+)I have creative mind and can leverage ERP background to develop holistic strategy etc.(-) No prior experience in mktg means Difficulty in getting laterally placed 2.(+)I can move to Business consulting/Pre Sales role with my ERP background.(+) Mktg will provide another dimension.(-) Lack specialization in a specific industry vertical 3.Do NOT have more ideas on what are the other profile in Mktg would suit me?? I do realise that post 2-3 years from now, an MBA from Mktg/Operations would not make too much of difference...cos by then I would be back in industry and applying “Common Sense “ in making things happen.. Right now, I need to figure out other available opportunities in either of these specialization which would be relevant to my profile and how I can position myself , so that I am able to leverage to my strengths while finding jobs for myself or getting placed as lateral during placement. Would really appreciate your valuable opinions and guidance on this. Thanks a ton. Gaurav Shrivastav
Does anyone know how to get a job in the Commercial Real Estate industry? I am interested in getting into commercial real estate, not sure what area....leasing, property management, lending, loan officer, I know it sounds cliche, but I basically just want to go where some big money can be made. I have a background in residential real estate as a loan officer and Account Executive for a subprime lender. From what I hear, people on the commercial side make some great money, it just seems that everyone wants someone with commercial experience. I am willing to pay my dues, training, mentoring, etc, but I just need to find somewhere to get my foot in the door. Any help?!
Can I start this business? Let's say I am unemployed and need something for my resume. I have enough to gain money doing various things and I decide why not start a business only with the intention of being able to put something on my resume. I go and do all the legal procedures by starting an S-Corporation called Executive Management Services (if the name is available) and make myself Chief Executive Officer. I am the only owner and have no intention of making any profit. Since it's an S-Corporation it would be privately owned and I would own every share. So, I use my money to fund the expenses and every three weeks I would be the client of my business and arrange things for executives, actually, myself. So I'd find random people who can be listed on the payroll as temporary workers for about 1 hour a week just to do nothing but boost employees. Then when I disband my private business, I apply to other companies and list myself as Chief Executive Officer (which I was). Will this work? Technically it isn't fraud, it is legitimate, and it isn't illegal. It might not be widely done because people usually start businesses for profit but why not start one for a huge windfall job title? I am the business's only private owner, I am the chief executive officer, I am the only client, all the 1 hour workers only make 1 phone call or just stay home and look nice and have fun and get $10 free. Essentially it is a legal way to list yourself as Chief Executive Officer and it wouldn't get you automatically denied possible employment by lying on a resume and the Government will have the documents to prove the business existed and you were President, Chairman, & Chief Executive Officer.
this is for chris scorza hahaha? SHOULD YOU GO INTO PHARMACY Pharmacists work with drugs and medicines and advise people on proper use of drugs. They work in clean. Well-lighted areas that resemble small labs. They spend a lot of time on their feet and must pay close attention when filling prescriptions. Some of them research: other work only part time. Most towns have at least one pharmacy. Many pharmacists own their own pharmacies and thus must have good sense of business. Honesty and the ability to win the confidence of people necessary characteristics and are valuable to any who select this career. People will put their health need your care. A license to practice pharmacy is needed in every state. In order to get this, you must have a degree in pharmacy, pass a state board examination, and serve an internship under a licensed pharmacist. Five years are needed to get a bachelor’s degree, which is the basic requirement for a job in the field. Most collages or pharmacy require one or two years of pre-pharmacy training in a junior college or a four year college. Math and basic science such as chemistry, biology and physics are included in training. If you are good in these in these subjects, pharmacy may be the field for you. Besides mixing and dispensing machines, a pharmacist may have other duties. Some buy and sell supplies and goods, hire and supervise other who work in the firm, and keep various records. Those who go into business on their own should be ready to assume all of the responsibilities for operating the company. Many pharmacies are open in the evening and on the evenings and on weekends, so self-employed persons often work more hours than those in salaried jobs. There is a trend toward working fewer hours: these may lead to hireling more pharmacist. If you know what kind of job you want, it is certainly possible to shop around and find just what you were looking for- on that fits your particular needs. The work of a pharmacist is crucial for good health care. Some of those who can train to be pharmacists go into related work areas. They may work on sales for drug companies, teach in collages of pharmacy, or work in research. In industry, they may have a chance to move into management level jobs or into other areas. Those who are employed by chain drugstores have a chance to advance to managerial or even to executive positions as they get experience and knowledge. Whatever the type of job a pharmacist may choose, the traits of honesty, orderliness, and accuracy are important. The job market for pharmacists is expected to grow, but keen job competition may materialize in the areas where a surplus of qualified people occurs. Advances in science that make a wider range of drug products available and a raising health standard are two things that will affect the demand for pharmacists. The pay is good. For those who do consulting work in addition toe their regular jobs, the total earnings may be far above the average. Pharmacy is a rewarding career chooses with rewarding conditions and the chance to help others. The lives of many people often rest in the hands of pharmacists.
I want a better job!!!!? I have been an administrative assistant for over 10 years and I would like to find a better paying job, but I don't want to take on the executive assistant role. I have my BS degree in Business Management--what type of job should I be looking for? I am currently in a Master's program for Business Management. I really need help because the current job that I am in is boring me to death.
Why doesn't my wife understand that she needs to get a job? We have been married for 3 years and have a 9 month old son. My wife was put on bed rest last February because of complications with the pregnancy. We ended up having our son 2 months early and to keep it brief, everything is fine with him now. Our original plan was to have her stay home until he developed enough to go to a regular daycare (no extra expenses because of special needs). We budgeted very carefully based on both of our salaries so that we could plan our future. When he pregnancy leave ran out she our son was not quite ready so we had to barely skip by on about 65% of our income and was helped out by some family members a couple times (to the tune of $6000. I think that all that did was let her know that someone will be there to bail us out. We have been barely skimping by for 5 months now and as much as I'd like to have my wife stay home to raise our son, it is NOT a feasible option, especially in these times, we're lucky that I still have a job. She has since started collecting unemployment that will run our very soon. If she doesn't have a job at the exact time that unemployment ends we are going to start loosing things. I can't get her to understand that by the time we can't pay the bills it's already too late. She has admitted that because no one is calling us about our bills, we are okay. Not only is that a god awful way to view personal finance but that leaves no room for putting anything at all towards our future which is becoming more and more important. She has always had jobs that paid very well and she doesn't understand that she doesn't need to find a huge management position, we need enough to cover daycare and at least $1000 extra a month. Don't anybody suggest that daycare is super expensive because we have researched it and found that it doesn't take an executive's position to offset the cost! Thank you very much for your input. I surely appreciate any view from outside my own situation. I have explained to her a few times my thoughts and feelings about the situation. She has had an evening job in the past and liked it but for whatever reason is not interested in that avenue right now. When we sit down and talk about it, our conversation seems very productive to the point where I think that she is going to get moving so I try to stay off her back and give her some time to work on it. A few weeks later it is very obvious that she has made no attempt to find a job. I almost wish it wasn't so easy to get unemployment, all you have to do is report to them that you tried and give them a name and number of the person you called. I have offered watch our son if we can find a schedule that doesn't take away from my current job. I even have my own landscaping business that I do by myself on weekends to bring in extra money.

Should I leave my probation job or should I stay? I am 26 years old, a degree holder in business admin and I am a local Singaporean male working in Singapore. I started my first job in late May 2009. I switched to another job in late March this year, to a small sized industry association. My probation pay was $2700 and after confirmation, it should be $2800. I don't know what the bonus is like. My probation period was supposed to by 3 months, which means that I was supposed to be confirmed in late May. My immediate boss had been with the organization for more than 10 years, while the Executive Director has been there for 6 years. In late May, my immediate boss spoke to me at the end of the three months, and she told me that they were extending my probation by another 2 months, as they felt that my performance was not satisfactory enough. At that time, I knew there were mistakes I made, but I did not expect not to be confirmed, so it was quite a shock to me. In any case, I stayed on. During that two months, I was handling several things, including a rather major project which I had no experience in handling and had no upperstudy to follow with. I was basically neglected during the project and I made a lot of mistakes and errors during the project. Also, my immediate boss was increasingly unhappy with me and I got scolded a lot. The executive director and my immediate boss were not happy with the way the project was handled and they let me know about it. At the end of the 2-month extension, which was 21 August, I didn't hear anything from them, so I didn't broach the topic. Last week Monday, the Executive Director came and talked to me and said that he "didn't know what to do with me" and that he was quite angry with my performance and told me to have a meeting with my immediate boss to discuss my future in the organisation. However, last week Wednesday, my immediate boss had a private meeting with me, and told me that "the management would like you to go". I took that as a hint that I should hand in my resignation letter and I certainly has the feeling that I was politely being asked to leave, although she did give the option that if I wanted to stay, I should tell her and she would extend my probation by another month. So I handed in my resignation letter yesterday. Today, my immediate boss and executive director had another meeting with me. This time, she asked why I wanted to leave and said it was a waste. Basically, she said that they wanted me to stay because although I've been giving unsatisfactory work performance, I had a good attitude. They hinted that if I stay, they would confirm me and give me some time to buck up my performance. However, in the same meeting, the executive director reiterated that he was still unhappy with my performance. The feeling I got was my immediate boss wanted me to stay but the executive director wanted me to leave. However, my immediate boss indicated that she had enough influence to make the decision on this. I am now feeling very confused and I feel the whole situation is quite strange. Last week, I felt like they were asking me to leave and now, today, they are asking me to stay. To tell the truth, I would want to leave, but I am afraid of being jobless, and I do not know how long it would take to find another job. On the other hand, I am looking for something with better pay and better prospects and I also felt that I might leave this company after a year or so anyway. Should I stay or should I leave?

Best way to re-discuss my leave with my boss after 2 attempts! HELP!? I am entitled to get 35 working days. I talked about my leave with my boss that I need to take 25 working days in one shot because my husband CAN only take his leave in one shot yearly. He has 40 calendars days as leave, but this time he has 2 extra weeks in his leave. My boss didnt really support the 25 working days and then he told me that no one has taken leave more than a month which is 20 working days, but he can ask the Executive general management office if I could do that. He never asked them bec I would follow up with him about it and he would tell me that he hasnt done it. So he told me that why not take 20 working days and then 10 days prior to my 1st day of leave he would let me know if I can take the extra 5 days, how silly is he? come on, it is only 5 freaking days. I got mad and told him that I cannot wait because we needed to book and probably if he tells me 10 days before then we wouldnt find seats for return as it will be high season. Then I told him to sign in the leave for the 20 days. HOW SILLY AM I!!!!! :((((((((((((((( I really need the extra 5 days. I am shy to talk about it with him. I even thought of lying and telling him that my family since knowing that I will stay 25 working days they are preparing a huge event 4 days before my supposedly 25 days of leave and that I cannot let them down. Please help me, how can I talk about it again without sounding unprofessional and stupid? I need to take the whole 25 working days (I wish I could take the whole 35 days but we cannot due business) because my husband will then stay a whoole month at home with our son if we were to take only 20 days, but if I take 25 then he would only stay like 2.5/3 weeks at home without doing a thing. Please help me I am desperate and at the office now before anyone has come in and the first person that is coming is my boss and I would like to talk about it as soon as he enters the office!! By the way, I am his assistant in case u wonder what is my job. HELP! Ok you guys are rude. COULD YOU ALL BE ABLE TO TALK A LITTLE MORE IN A NICE WAY?
Did anything like this take place on Collins project ? <Backlash: Women Bullying Women at Work Katherine Streeter By MICKEY MEECE Published: May 9, 2009 YELLING, scheming and sabotaging: all are tell-tale signs that a bully is at work, laying traps for employees at every pass. Skip to next paragraph Enlarge This Image Peter DaSilva for The New York Times Kent Kaufman and Laura Stek, right, of the Growth and Leadership Center, coach Cleo Lepori-Costello, left, a vice president at a Silicon Valley software company, on communication skills. During this downturn, as stress levels rise, workplace researchers say, bullies are likely to sharpen their elbows and ratchet up their attacks. Its probably no surprise that most of these bullies are men, as a survey by the Workplace Bullying Institute, an advocacy group, makes clear. But a good 40 percent of bullies are women. And at least the male bullies take an egalitarian approach, mowing down men and women pretty much in equal measure. The women appear to prefer their own kind, choosing other women as targets more than 70 percent of the time. In the name of Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem, what is going on here? Just the mention of women treating other women badly on the job seemingly shakes the womens movement to its core. It is what Peggy Klaus, an executive coach in Berkeley, Calif., has called the pink elephant in the room. How can women break through the glass ceiling if they are ducking verbal blows from other women in cubicles, hallways and conference rooms? Women dont like to talk about it because it is so antithetical to the way that we are supposed to behave to other women, Ms. Klaus said. We are supposed to be the nurturers and the supporters. Ask women about run-ins with other women at work and some will point out that people of both sexes can misbehave. Others will nod in instant recognition and recount examples of how women more so than men have mistreated them. Ive been sabotaged so many times in the workplace by other women, I finally left the corporate world and started my own business, said Roxy Westphal, who runs the promotional products company Roxy Ventures Inc. in Scottsdale, Ariz. She still recalls the sting of an interview she had with a woman 30 years ago that turned into a one-person firing squad and led her to leave the building in tears. Jean Kondek, who recently retired after a 30-year career in advertising, recalled her anger when an administrator in a small agency called a meeting to dress her down in front of co-workers for not following agency procedure in a client emergency. But Ms. Kondek said she had the last word. I said, Would everyone please leave? She added, and then I told her, This is not how you handle that. Many women who are still in the work force were hesitant to speak out publicly for fear of making matters worse or of jeopardizing their careers. A private accountant in California said she recently joined a company and was immediately frozen out by two women working there. One even pushed her in the cafeteria during an argument, the accountant said. Its as if were back in high school, she said. A senior executive said she had finally broken the glass ceiling only to have another woman gun for her job by telling management, I cant work for her, shes passive-aggressive. The strategy worked: The executive said she soon lost the job to her accuser. ONE reason women choose other women as targets is probably some idea that they can find a less confrontative person or someone less likely to respond to aggression with aggression, said Gary Namie, research director for the Workplace Bullying Institute, which ordered the study in 2007. But another dynamic may be at work. After five decades of striving for equality, women make up more than 50 percent of management, professional and related occupations, says Catalyst, the nonprofit research group. And yet, its 2008 census found, only 15.7 percent of Fortune 500 officers and 15.2 percent of directors were women. Leadership specialists wonder, are women being overly aggressive because there are too few opportunities for advancement? Or is it stereotyping and women are only perceived as being overly aggressive? Is there a double standard at work? Research on gender stereotyping from Catalyst suggests that no matter how women choose to lead, they are perceived as never just right. Whats more, the group found, women must work twice as hard as men to achieve the same level of recognition and prove they can lead. If women business leaders act consistent with gender stereotypes, they are considered too soft, the group found in a 2007 study. If they go against gender stereotypes, they are considered too tough. Skip to next paragraph Enlarge This Image David Kadlubowski for The New York Times Michelle Cirocco, left, and Donna Kent of Televerde, a company in Phoenix that set up call centers at a state prison. Women are trying to figure out the magical keys to the kingdom, said Laura Steck, president of the Growth and Leadership Center in Sunnyvale, Calif., and an executive leadership coach. Women feel they have to be aggressive to be promoted, she said, and then they keep it up. Then, suddenly, they see the need to be collegial and collaborative instead of competitive. Cleo Lepori-Costello, a vice president at a Silicon Valley software company, came to the center for training. She got off to a bumpy start when she stormed into her new role like a bull in a china shop, Ms. Steck said. In gathering feedback about Ms. Lepori-Costello, Ms. Steck heard comments like: Cleo is good at getting things done but may have come on too strong in the beginning. She didnt read the different cultural unspoken rules like she could have. So Ms. Steck and Kent Kaufman, another coach at the center, began a one-year, once-a-week individual coaching program. It included role-playing and monthly group discussions with other female executives who acknowledged that they also had major blind spots about being politic at work. (The group was once nicknamed the Bully Broads.) When she came to the center, Ms. Lepori-Costello said, she thought her colleagues were not initially open to her ideas. Through coaching and conflict role-playing, she came to realize that her behavior was perhaps too much overkill and that she was not always attending to all the people around her. Joel H. Neuman, a researcher at the State University of New York at New Paltz, says most aggressive behavior at work is influenced by a number of factors associated with the bullies, victims and the situations in which they work. This would include issues related to frustration, personality traits, perceptions of unfair treatment, and an assortment of stresses and strains associated with todays leaner and meaner work settings, , he said. Mr. Neuman and his colleague Loraleigh Keashly of Wayne State University have developed a questionnaire to identify the full range of behaviors that can constitute bullying, which could help companies uncover problems that largely go unreported. Bullying involves verbal or psychological forms of aggressive (hostile) behavior that persists for six months or longer. Their 29 questions include: Over the last 12 months, have you regularly: been glared at in a hostile manner, been given the silent treatment, been treated in a rude or disrespectful manner, or had others fail to deny false rumors about you? The Workplace Bullying Institute says that 37 percent of workers have been bullied. Yet many employers ignore the problem, which hits the bottom line in turnover, health care and productivity costs, the institute says. Litigation is rare, the institute says, because there is no directly applicable law to cite and the costs are high. Two Canadian researchers recently set out to examine the bullying that pits women against women. They found that some women may sabotage one another because they feel that helping their female co-workers could jeopardize their own careers. One of the researchers, Grace Lau, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Waterloo, said the goal was to encourage women to help one another. She said: How? One way we predicted would be to remind women that they are members of the same group. We believe that a sense of pride in womens accomplishments is important in getting women to help one another, Ms. Lau said. To have this sense of pride, women need to be aware of their shared identity as women. In the workplace, however, it is unlikely that women will constantly think of themselves as members of one group, she said. They will more likely see themselves as individuals, as they are judged by their performance. As a result, women may not feel a need to help one another, , she said. They may even feel that in order to get ahead, they need to bully their co-workers by withholding information like promotion opportunities, and that women are easier to bully than men because women are supposedly less tough than men. Skip to next paragraph WHAT better place to be a bully than in a prison? Even so, that is exactly where Televerde, a company in Phoenix that specializes in generating sales leads and market insight for high-tech companies, set up shop. About 13 years ago, the company created four call centers in the Arizona state prison in Perryville, employing 250 inmates (out of 3,000). Through immersion training, mentoring and working with real-world clients, these women can overcome their difficult circumstances, said Donna Kent, senior vice president at Televerde. Often, they will win over bullies and we see the whole thing transform. Thats what gives us inspiration and our clients inspiration. TODAY, about half of Televerdes corporate office is made up of graduates from Perryville, including Michelle Cirocco, the director of sales operations. She has seen how women treat one another in other settings and she thinks the root cause is that women are taught to fight with one another for attention at an early age. Were competing with our sisters for dads attention, or for our brothers attention, Ms. Cirocco said. And then we go on in school and were competing for our teachers attention. Were competing to be on the sports team or the cheer squad. To be sure, the Televerde experience is not for every inmate, and those who are in it still must work hard to maintain a highly competitive position. As we get into the corporate world, Ms. Cirocco added, were taught or were led to believe that we dont get ahead because of men. But, we really dont get ahead because of ourselves. Instead of building each other up and showcasing each other, were constantly tearing each other down. Televerde reversed that attitude in Perryville, Ms. Cirocco said, by encouraging women to work for a common cause, much like the environment envisioned by the Canadian researchers. It becomes a very nurturing environment, Ms. Cirocco said. You have all these women who become your friends, and you are personally invested in their success. Everyone wants everyone to get out, to go on to have a good healthy life. If the level of support found at Televerde were found elsewhere, Ms. Klaus said, it would solve a lot of problems. The time has come, she said, for us to really deal with this relationship that women have to women, because it truly is preventing us from being as successful in the workplace as we want to be and should be. Weve got enough obstacles; we dont need to pile on any more. > To gameface, Thanks. Terrific.
Is an employee due overtime compensation if their pay was docked below $455 for the week? Could an employee be removed from FLSA EXEMPT status and be due overtime compensation if their pay was docked due to taking a sick/personal day resulting with a pay of less that $455 for the week (as specified by the Department of Labor)? My wife has been working a minimum of 56 hour weeks, is salary pay, and makes just above the $455 limit for exemption from FLSA. She does not qualify exempt for Executive, Administrative, Professional, Computer, & Outside Sales as her primary duties are cashier related. During bad winter weather I fell ill and she had to remain at home with our child. She called her employer in advance, he seemed understanding and didn't inform her that she wouldn't be compensated. It came as a surprise 2 weeks later to find that her pay had been docked nearly $70 for the incident. However, since the pay was shorted it dropped her below the FLSA exemption for the week. Is she due overtime compensation for the 16 hours over 40 that she worked that week? Also, she is paid biweekly, since the gross pay for both weeks is below $910, does this mean she might qualify for overtime compensation for 2 weeks? She really wants to switch jobs as this employer is rubbish, but cannot find anyone hiring. They say that they cannot afford her as an hourly employee and she doesn't qualify for the management position as it is not her "job title" (even though she has managerial duties).

Area 51, however, is not "most places." For the fifth year in a row, President Bush has granted the Air Force an executive exemption from legal requirements to disclose information regarding solid or hazardous waste disposal operations at Area 51. All other government and all private business are required to provide information on their waste disposal procedures under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), administered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Lawsuits necessitate Area 51's annual exemption Area 51's annual exemption stems from lawsuits filed in 1996 on the behalf of two former civilian employees at the facility. Both employees, Robert Frost and Wally Kasza, died of illnesses attributed to inhalation of smoke from toxic materials being disposed of at Area 51. Plaintiffs in the lawsuits, Frost v. Perry and Kasza v. Browne, claimed that the Air Force and EPA had violated the RCRA by illegally burning Area 51's hazardous waste in open pits. Never seeking any monetary damages, Frost and Kasza asked only that the Air Force be forced to disclose factual information relating to the chemical nature of hazardous waste produced at Area 51 and the methods used for its disposal. Pentagon's defense: "What Area 51?" When the suits were filed, the Pentagon still relied on claims of "military and state secrets privilege" to deny the very existence of Area 51. At trial, Air Force lawyers argued that Frost and Kasza could not have possibly inhaled non-existent smoke from non-existent hazardous waste disposed of at a non-existent Air Force base. Not fully buying the government's "What Area 51?" defense, the courts handed down judgments that satisfied almost nobody. While the plaintiffs were not allowed to find out what Frost, Kasza and other workers had been exposed to, the courts did order the EPA to conduct annual inspections of "an operating location near Groom Lake" for compliance with the RCRA and to make its findings public. The Air Force, however, did not want to make those findings public and the Air Force knew a way to get its way. Under federal law - 42 U.S.C. 6961(a) - the President of the United States can exempt "any solid waste management facility of any department, agency, or instrumentality in the executive branch from compliance with such a requirement if he determines it to be in the paramount interest of the United States to do so." Since 1998, two presidents have chosen to "do so." In 1997, a court ruled that the Air Force's exemption from hazardous waste disclosure for "an operating location near Groom Lake" had to be issued annually by the White House. President Clinton issued the first such exemption in 1998. Oh, That Area 51! The Air Force finally admitted the existence of Area 51 on April 17, 2000, when Air Force spokeswoman Gloria Cales told Associated Press reporters, "We acknowledge having an operating site there [Area 51], and the work is classified." Cales added that the work done at Area 51 involved "operations critical to the U.S. military and the country's security." Area 51 is believed to have been among several desolate dessert Air Force sites used for testing of once top-secret U.S. military aircraft, like the U-2 and SR-71 spy planes, and the F-177A stealth fighter and B-2 stealth bomber. Yet fueled by years of secrecy, the main thing to take off from Area 51 have been rumors and theories concerning "unearthly" operations going on there. Rumors of "alien toxins" blast off Nobody involved in the lawsuits ever even hinted that the substances Frost and Kasza died from were anything but good-old "Made in the USA" hazardous industrial waste. However, Area 51's reputation for extraterrestrial doings led ufologists and conspiracy theorists to claim the workers had actually been exposures to deadly alien toxins, possibly byproducts of alien spacecraft fuel. With its boundaries guarded round-the-clock by forces promising to employ deadly force against against trespassers, the air base that never existed has accumulated more than its share of rumored other worldly purposes, including but far from limited to: Crashed or captured extraterrestrial spacecraft are hidden there. Deceased and possibly surviving alien pilots are kept there. The alien spacecraft are being converted for use by the US Military. With the cooperation of the U.S. Air Force, Area 51 is used by an extraterrestrial military force, (They promise to help us win future wars in return for partial control of our government, the human race, etc.) Besides "eye-witness" accounts from a few credible and many not-so-credible people, Area 51's extraterrestrial rumors are based on three main facts: The Air Force runs it. It's in the desert, just like Roswell, New Mexico Flying lights and objects traveling at impossible speeds and making impossible maneuvers have been reported, even photographed in the vicinity. Still, the question remains... Neither Frost or Kasza ever claimed to have witnessed or to have knowledge of extraterrestrial activities at Area 51. The Air Force publicly claims waste disposal procedures at Area 51 now fully comply with EPA regulations. Why then, does the White House persist in exempting Area 51 from EPA disclosure, an exemption granted to no other military or non-military government facility? The answer, of course is that except for "an operating location near Groom Lake," there is nothing out there but desert. Nothing in the world.

What are the odds that I am accepted into the Harvard MBA program? After failing to find a job for 5 months after graduation, I decided to take the GMAT and did better than expected. The next week I was offered a job at a large corporation and obviously took it. I am one year out of college and anxiously looking forward to catapulting my career with a top-notch education from a respected university like Harvard. I know work experience is important so I plan on working for a couple years but the GMAT score is only valid for 5 years. I chose to single out Harvard in my question above but I plan on applying to several premier schools. With the details I have provided below, please let me know how likely you think it is that I will be accepted into a premier MBA program. Thanks. What do you think of my cover letter? Is it OK? Dear Sir or Madam: I am contacting you in regard to the Judicial Assistant position advertised in the April 19th edition of the Daily Oklahoman. I have five plus years of paralegal and legal secretary experience, as well as prior experience in office management. Additionally, I hold a four-year degree. I believe that I am well qualified and well suited for this position, and that my qualifications and experience in the legal field make me an appropriate candidate for this job. I also am confident that this opportunity can offer me what I’m seeking in a career. I find that I perform best in demanding situations, where my skills and experience can be utilized completely and I am challenged to do my best. I am especially excited about this career because I have always been deeply interested in the judicial process, and I believe that this would be an excellent way to advance my knowledge and capability even further. I feel certain that this environment would provide the high work flow and problem-solving challenges that I seek. From what I have read and researched, this job involves quite a bit of docket management, schedule management, citation and quotation verification, and legal research. This appeals to me greatly, as these are the things I have enjoyed the most during my time in the legal profession. Additionally, in my prior capacity as an executive assistant, I enjoyed case management and schedule management, and believe that I would be an invaluable asset to the judge in question; enabling smooth operation of the schedules under my control. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss this position further. I am more than willing to travel for a personal interview, as well as to provide additional experience and references upon request. Thank you very much for your consideration; I look forward to hearing from you. Very truly yours, The interview is out-of-state...so I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be interviewed unless they actually want to hire me...
PLEASE HELP: What would you do? It's about college and career? I'm a freshman in college, taking a pre-med course and I didn't choose this for myself, my dad did because he said it has a lot of benefits like I could move to any country I want (even though I don't wanna move to another country) but my mom said I could always transfer in a year if I decide what I really want to be. Now, at first I wanted to be something creative, I love fashion, make up, drawing, sketching... I mean, I got into a good university for advertising arts (which is perfect cause it's business AND art, so I'm not too worried about finding a job) but my dad flipped and made me take a pre-med course or he won't pay my tuition. So, I can't transfer to that university anymore with the advertising arts because they're REALLY tough when it comes to transferees, and I'm not that confident in my current grades. So now, I'm taking a pre-med course and I'm still lost about what I want to do for the rest of my life. When I look at courses offered in other colleges, sometimes I think about just taking business since it's so broad but that's too reckless. My mom said I need more guidance, well I don't know where to get my friggin guidance! So I'm asking here. My options are: A. Just take a business course like Management or something, it so broad! B. Continue with Pre-Med, then Med and become a doctor or forensic scientist or surgeon, something awesome. C. Finish Pre-Med, and take another course that I like (like fashion or something) when I graduate, like get two bachelor degrees I mean, becoming a doctor wasn't really a childhood dream or anything but I think the only reason why that option is there is because, my family has this thing for being academics, like my mom's an Executive Judge, my eldest sister is taking her masters degree in business in Denmark, my other sister who's like a senior in college now studying economics, is going to law school after; and during her HS years she was offered scholarships to Harvard & MIT. So I feel like I have to contribute to our family name or something..

A job I'm not particularly interested in- should I take it? I completed my bachelor's degree three months ago and have been job hunting since. I would love to join a FMCG as a management trainee and eventually get into branding, but due to the economic recession I've been unable to find one. There is a vacancy for a research executive in a research agency and I have a high chance of getting selected. The problem is, I'm skeptical about joining because that's not what I want! Should I go for it without being too picky because of the crappy economy and job scarcity OR wait till a management trainee post in a FMCG comes up?
Help deciding career? Any suggestions or thoughts? I have a bachelor's degree in psychology with no interest in pursuing psychology any further. I was going to school for accounting but I do not have the money to complete the degree so I've decided to just find a career. The problem is that I don't know what career to go with. I was thinking sales but that is too risky but I am willing to give it a try since I am financially motivated. I am afraid to do sales since I do not have an outgoing personality, nor am I extremely aggressive. Next, I thought about trying an administrative assistant but I see no room for advancement in this role. I could try for executive admin eventually. I also thought about hr, but that is so hard to get into. Another career was retail management since I could probably try moving up and eventually land a district management position. I have 5 years of retail management experience (small specialty store), but I am getting no responses to my resume and I've been applying to all jobs. Is it the economy? Any thoughts or suggestions on a career path? Good observation and point, Mr. Pickle. I do have a 'reason' for everything. I would love to be a psychologist, but that is not financially possible for me. I should've thought about that before I decided to major in psychology. I just want to live comfortably, and be happy. I don't really have a love for any career but I like office work and some aspects of business.
Why is the Scottish Ambulance Service being let down? After reading a tragic story in the Scottish Daily Record, I find it hard to believe the policy of the management of the Ambulance Service. It seems that they are replacing two man crews with one man rapid response units to make the response times look better. Unfortunately in some situations the crew member is not allowed to attend the victim as in the case of the poor woman named in the article who had to sit in her vehicle and listen to a young man die. It would appear that the management seem to be more interested in figures and making themselves look good than taking care of patients. As a person who is alive today because of the skill and speedy response of the Ambulance Service I find this totally unacceptable and quite frankly unbelievable. I suggest chief executive Kevin Doran who's last job was with JobCentre Plus another shining example of organization heed the advice of of the experienced people in the service who put the welfare of the patients before meaningless figures.
Is my husband getting "hit on" by his married male boss? My husband is from Columbia (so there are a few cultural differences that he doesn't understand)....He just started a new job. Within 2 weeks of him being there, his boss gave him a $200 cash bonus for doing good work. I thought this was a little strange, but didn't think much of it at first. About a week later, (we're now only 3 weeks into his new employment), his boss found him in the breakroom (alone) and made a comment that he looked better when he let his bangs fall on his forehead rather than slicking his hair back and then proceeded to "fix" his hair. After he finished playing with my husband's hair, he then gave him an Armani watch. Again, supposedly for doing well at his job. However, he told him to not tell anyone that his boss gave it to him. At this point, I started to raise my eyebrow wondering what this was all about. Less than a week later, my husband was on his way home from work when he got a call from his boss telling him to meet him at a restaurant, claiming that he was required to be at an upper level management meeting. (My husband is a lower level employee and not part of upper level management). When he stated to his boss he needed to go home and change out of his scrubs first, his boss instructed him to meet him at a nearby mall and he would take care of getting him some appropriate clothes. When my husband arrived at the mall, his boss bought him over $400 worth of clothes (1 complete outfit...shoes, socks, pants, $170 shirt). When he arrived at the dinner function, all the executive/upper level management people were staring at him in disbelief wondering why this hourly employee was there. Last week, his boss took him to lunch at a very nice, expensive restaurant and proceeded to tell him how unhappy he was with his wife and his marriage. My husband didn't know what to say and just politely nodded and tried to be a sympathetic listener. This week, the boss has now indicated that he would like my husband to be his personal assistant and to travel with him when necessary. My husband's birthday is this Thursday and the boss just offered to take him to the Bahamas for the weekend...just the two of them. Now, I'm more than a little concerned. What can we do to stop this? My husband doesn't want to lose his job and is afraid to say anything. This is putting a huge strain on our relationship. My husband is not in the least interested in his boss "in that way"...but he's terrified of losing his job if he says "stop" to this guy. I can't convince my husband that his boss is probably a closeted married gay man. What can I do????
Should I tell on my whore former friend? this is a true story, ok, anyway, she confided in me that she's sleeping with this Upper executive on our job. She's married. He's married. Well i just found out that she got a promotion. One that I know for a fact that she was not qualified for. Now, i am tempted to go to the upper management and disclose this extramarital affair because I think her promotion was due to the fact that she was sleeping with that man. What should I do? My co-workers are being forced into Custodial work from their clerk positions and here she is sleeping her way to the top and bypassing the crap we have to go through. Should I tell? What would you do in this instance? *ignoring idiot answers*,, this is true, I am tempted to report her, I recently stop talking to her because I got tired of her telling me about how much of a whore she is. I work for the Fed Govt, this will be taken very seriously, and I don't work in her building but I am still apart of the company. it affects me because I currently got a demotion into a craft that is a dead-end, low pay craft and it's not fair for her to get something that others' (including myself) was entitled to. I know that it is a fact that she is still sleeping with this man. Everyone knows it. I have seen him with her on numerous occasions.
CASE INCIDENT:What Drives Employees at Microsoft? The reality of software development in a huge company like Microsoft (it employs more than 48,000 people) is that a substantial portion of your work involves days of boredom punctuated by hours of tedium. You basically spend your time in an isolated office writing code and sitting in meetings during which you participate in looking for and evaluating hundreds of bugs and potential bugs. Yet Microsoft has no problem in finding and retaining software programmers. Their programmers work horrendously long hours and obsess on the goal of shipping product. From the day new employees begin work at Microsoft; they know they are special and that their employer is special. New hires all have one thing in common—they are smart. The company prides itself on putting all recruits through a grueling “interview loop,” during which they confront a barrage of brain-teasers by future colleagues to see how well they think. Only the best and the brightest survive to become employees. The company does this because Microsofties truly believe that their company is special. For instance, it has a high tolerance for nonconformity. Would you believe that one software tester comes to work every day dressed in extravagant Victorian outfits? But the underlying theme that unites Microsofties is the belief that the firm has a manifest destiny to change the world. The least consequential decision by a programmer can have an outsized importance when it can affect a new release that might be used by 50 million people. Microsoft employees are famous for putting in long hours. One program manager said, “In my first five years, I was the Microsoft stereotype. I lived on caffeine and vending-machine hamburgers and free beer and 20-hour workdays. . . . I had no life. . . . I considered everything outside the building as a necessary evil.” More recently, things have changed. There are still a number of people, who put in 80-hour weeks, but 60- and 70-hour weeks are more typical and some even are doing their jobs in only 40 hours. No discussion of employee life at Microsoft would be complete without mentioning the company’s lucrative stock option program. Microsoft created more millionaire employees, faster, than any company in American history—more than 10,000 by the late-1990s. While the company is certainly more than a place to get rich, executives still realize that money matters. One former manager claims that the human resources’ department actually kept a running chart of employee satisfaction versus the company’s stock price. “When the stock was up, human resources could turn off the ventilation and everybody would say they were happy. When the stock was down, we could give people massages and they would tell us that the massages were too hard.” In the go-go 1990s, when Microsoft stock was doubling every few months and yearly stock splits were predictable, employees not only got to participate in Microsoft’s manifest destiny, but they could get rich in the process. By the spring of 2002, with the world in a recession, stock prices down, and the growth for Microsoft products slowing, it was not so clear what was driving its employees to continue the company’s dominance of the software industry. Questions: 1. If you were a programmer, would you want to work at Microsoft? Why or why not? 2. How many activities in this case can you tie into specific motivation theories? List the activities, the motivation theories, and how they apply. 3. What will be some important implications for management to motivate employees, according to Masllow’s theory? Also give some general suggestions to improve the motivation level of employees. 4. Other than stock option program as mentioned in case what can be the other opportunities for compensating employees.
What suitable course and where to attend it? I left my job as a Secretary some 4 years ago to look after my sick dad full time. He is in a better condition now and am planning to start working again. I have a diploma in Admin Management and I do not mind going back to secretarial or administrative line again as I have been in that line for years and still find it stimulating. Or even and Executive Assistant position. I would like to take up some evening classes just to upgrade myself. Does anyone have any recommendations on the type of courses I should attend and which School or Training Centre do you recommend? I would prefer short courses in Administrative or Digital Graphic Design. Thank you. I forgot to mention that I have been working for more than 10 years in Admin line. And I am in my mid 30s and base out of Singapore. I also have a diploma in MS Office.

My future career plans? Hello. I am 13. I want to know what you think about my plans for my future career. I would like to be really rich and have a family. I would also like a mansion and a NYC apartment. So far, I have the best grades in my private school. I plan on maintaining those grades throughout my school career. After high school, I plan on attending a ivy league school. After receiving a BBA in college, I would apply for a job as an analyst and hopefully join the well known management consulting firm McKinsey and Company. They have great benefits and a very competitive compensation. After a few years as an analyst in NYC, they will even pay for some of your tuition to get an MBA as long as you agree to come back after your MBA. I would hopefully get my MBA at Harvard Business School or Sloan or UM Ross. After getting my MBA, I would rejoin McKinsey as an associate. Associates at McKinsey make around $200,000 a year. Each year, your salary goes up. Their job growth rate is also very high. They also have great work life balance for when I'm ready to start a family. After 6-9 years, they will most likely promote you to a partner position which makes $800,000 to $2,000,000 a year. Stay with the firm for another five years, and most likely you get promoted to director which makes multi millions. When I'm with the firm, i will focus my career in consulting with media companies. After sometime with the firm, I would apply for a senior managment/executive position at a fortune 500 media company like viacom, time Warner, news Corp etc. If I am correct, I believe executives of fortune 500 media companies make multi millions. My fathers friend is currently an executive at viacom and is very wealthy. People tell me that in order to become wealthy, you have to start your own company. However, you can get wealthy by having a high paying job, and investing. There is no one way to wealth. I used to think I wanted to be an investment banker at gold man sachs. By having a career with McKinsey in it, it means a lot. Many fortune 500 executives come from firms like McKinsey. McKinsey prepares you for a successful career in business management. I realize that most likely, my career won't exactly go like this, but this is what I hope to achieve and become really rich. So you think this is any good? Thanks. PS, if you find any typos, it is because I just got an iPad and my typing on it sucks :) lol.
Assess the value of strategic value in helping P&O to formulater its strategy for the future? P &O is a large established company operating across channel ferry services for passengers and freight. In addition, it owns and operates a number of pods. In the first half of 2004, passenger ferries lost P&O £25m. In contrast freight crossings, which transport lorries carrying goods between UK and the rest of Europe, earned £74m in profit in the same period. In the late 2004, P&O announced plans to reduce its passenger ferry workforce by 1200 employees. The move was designed to reduce capacity and cut costs in its cross channel passenger ferry services. The job cuts are part of a larger strategic review of operations that P&O has been conducting since the start of 2004. This was not the first time P&O had reduced the size of its operations. It has spent the past decade slimming down. In the past, it has been criticised for being over-large ............ with a vast range of interests in property, entertainment, holiday resorts, in addition to its ferry services and ports. It has gradually shed its diverse interests and concentrated on its core activities of ferry services and ports. The city was pleased with the proposed job cuts. P&O’s share price climbed 5% following the announcements of cuts. Some analysts suggested it was only a matter of time before P&O rid itself completely of the passenger ferries and focused on the thriving ports and freight parts of the operation. However, union leaders criticised the proposed job losses and the lack of consultation, warning P&O bosses that they faced industrial action if they went through with the proposed cuts. Bob Crow, the Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) General Secretary, said: “our members are devastated by the cuts. We urged the company to consult with us properly, but instead they kept, us guessing for weeks. We found out about the job cuts through the media after the decision had been taken. We are happy to talk about ways we can improve efficiency, but we will not tolerate any compulsory redundancies.” Another union lender claimed that P&O’s management was acting “like rabbits facing the headlights” in response to the passenger ferries losses. “they should seek imaginative and bold strategies for the future, rather than opting to cut costs in this knee jerk way”, he said. A number of factors have made it increasingly difficult for P&O to run its passenger ferries profitably. In recent year, it has experienced a decline in day trips, where passengers bought cheaper beer, wines, tobacco products and gifts on board or during a short stay in France. This decline has occurred for a number of reasons: •The opening of the Channel Tunnel in 1994; •The abolition of tax free sales of alcohol and tobacco products on board ferries in 1999; •The French government’s decision to raise tax on cigarettes by 50%; •Increasing sales of cheep beer and wine in UK super markets. At the same time the growth of low cost airlines opened up more exotic destinations for UK travellers. In addition, P&O claims it does not receive the same kind of help as some of its competitors. Two of the main rivals, Sea France and Brittany Ferries, are basically owned by the French government and, consequently, are under little pressure to deliver profits for shareholders. Also, Eurotunnel, which operates services through the Channel Tunnel, continues to run at a loss with little, chance of generating a return for investors. So it is no surprise that P&O has been under intense pressure to slash prices of its crossing in order to stay profitable. “We are not asking for subsidies from the UK government, but we do not have a pretty uneven playing field”, said Mr Woods, P&O’s chief executive. Bill Moses, a former boss of Hoverspeed, one of P&’Os competitors, argues that the ferry companies have been reluctant to reduce their capacity as the overall market has shrunk and changed in nature. Total ferry passenger numbers from the UK to France are set to halve between 2000 and 2010. “The industry needs to match capacity to demand – something its never been good at , he said. “In the past, in a growing market, its not been an issue. In truth, P&O is a fat cat and needs to tailor its service more to customer needs and customer volumes”, he added. It isn’t all gloom at P&O. Ports and freight services have been consistently profitable. The company expects freight services to contribute 51% of total revenue for 2004, and the freight market as a whole to expand by 6% a year. This growth in freight is partly due to the fact that the volume of freight traffic increases as the economy grows stronger and is also likely to be boosted by the expansion of the European Union. More than half of total imports into eastern European countries are from established EU countries, so freight traffic between established EU countries and the new entrants could expand considerably. P&O is attempting to ....... freight business from Latvia, Hungary, and the Czech Repu
Do you believe porn is going on in the workplace? Originally published 04:45 a.m., October 18, 2009, updated 12:55 p.m., October 18, 2009 Workplace Porn Wastes Time, Cash Cheryl Wetzstein First of two parts On Sept. 29, my Washington Times colleague Jim McElhatton led the paper with a story about National Science Foundation (NSF) employees accessing pornography at their work computers. The porn problem was pervasive enough to trigger a massive internal investigation. One senior NSF executive, for instance, had "spent at least 331 days looking at pornography on his government computer and chatting online with nude or partially clad women, without being detected," Mr. McElhatton reported, based on records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. The NSF executive retired once his pornography use was exposed, but investigators estimated that he alone wasted between $13,800 and $58,000 of taxpayer monies. No one should imagine that the NSF scandal is isolated or rare. Workplace pornography is a major problem, according to the American Management Association (AMA). Employers are fighting back with anti-porn filters on computers; as of 2007, about two-thirds of U.S. companies used such software, the AMA said. But there are still ways to evade the filters, and inexplicably, many employees seem determined to access porn at work, even if it costs them their jobs. Listen to these comments, gathered by Idaho Post-Register reporter Corey Taule in an award-winning 2007 article on pornography. Mark J. Holubar, a human resources executive, told Mr. Taule that his company is clear about its no-porn-at-work policy, but he still had an employee confess to him: "Yeah, I know I did it. I know it was wrong. I don't know why, I was just doing it." And Gordon Boyle, a pastor at Calvary Chapel Church in Idaho Falls, Idaho, who counsels men for sex addiction, said it was "so bizarre" that employees would look at porn even when they knew they were being monitored. "I don't think we understand the grip or the pull [of pornography]," Mr. Boyle told Mr. Taule. That, I think, is the big question: What makes presumably well-educated, well-paid professionals risk everything they worked for just for another look? The answer is simple — sex addiction, says Michael Leahy, author of the new book "Porn @ Work: Exposing The Office's #1 Addiction." Mr. Leahy, a recovering sex addict, believes he was one of the first people to get involved with workplace porn. As an IBM computer specialist in the early 1980s, he and colleagues used porn at work years before online pornography and personal computers entered American homes. Later, as an executive with a private office and top-of-the-line computers, Mr. Leahy found even more ways to spend hours engrossed in porn. "I was that person who is every line manager's and HR professional's worst nightmare — the sex addict at work who flew under the radar for years and never got caught," Mr. Leahy wrote. How does porn interfere with work? Initially, it just consumes countless hours (viewing images, concealing images, plus regular trips to private places to masturbate). As the compulsive behaviors grow, porn-related rituals detract from work performance, Mr. Leahy wrote. A person preoccupied with porn, for instance, will miss meetings, fail to make calls or leave projects unfinished. They may seem to undergo a personality change, becoming easily irritated, unreasonably defensive or socially withdrawn. It's not uncommon for sex addicts to lose their spouses or their jobs, Mr. Leahy wrote. They also are prone to acting out sexually, exposing themselves to sexually transmitted disease and pregnancy, or legal problems "ranging from nuisance offenses to rape," Mr. Leahy wrote. Business managers, he added, are particularly alarmed by sexual harassment or hostile workplace lawsuits filed over employees' bad behavior. Mr. Leahy has some solutions to offer, but first he wants to sound the alarm about college students. Their college experiences are in a pornography-friendly subculture, he told me. "But the key is, when they have to stop — when they are made to stop — what will they do?" Next week: Collision course. • Send e-mail to cwetzstein@washingtontimes.com. http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/oct/18/wetzstein-workplace-porn-wastes-time-cash/?feat=home_columns&

Did this damage Collins project ? <<Managerial Madness: Micro-Managers provided by: Originally published at Internet.com Micro-management kills projects. Say that loud, say it proud. Good, conscientious workers hate micro-managers; the folks who insist on eyeballing every last "t" to make sure it is crossed and who wish they could require team members to get bathroom passes before getting up from their desks. Now ask yourself this: Are you a micro-manager? Do not be too quick to say no. "In 20 years of doing this work I have never had a manager come to me and say, 'I need help, I'm a micro-manager," says Wally Bock, an executive coach. "They feel they are only doing their jobs." Nobody in the history of work has ever awoken, clapped his hands and said: "I can't wait until I'm at work micro-managing the heck out of this project and my team." So, if you don't know you are doing it, how can you possibly stop? Definition time. What exactly is micro-management? It boils down to insufficient delegation (handing off only the easiest tasks) and/or continually checking in on progress. "Thus, when a project manager states, 'I need you to do 'X' by Friday at 5 p.m.," and calls the person to whom the task was assigned several times a day monitoring progress, the person is a classic micro-manager," says Kimberly Mount, an adjunct professor of organizational psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a leadership development consultant. The classic micro-manager cannot resist meddling at every step in a project. Good project managers parcel out work, then let team members go off and percolate individually and without interference. Not a micro-manager. These lines can be finely drawn, so understand that what makes micro-management particularly treacherous is "it is too much of a good thing," says Stefanie Smith, head of Stratex, a coaching firm. Chew on this factoid: according to Harry Chambers, author of My Way or the Highway: The Micromanagement Survival Guide , 71% of us indicate we are victims of micromanagement. Would your team members say they are in that super-majority? What causes micro-management? Experts point to three drivers: * Extreme detail orientation a.k.a, perfectionism. * Self-centeredness. That is, "[T]he belief you are smarter than the others," says Todd Dewett, an associate professor of management at Wayne State University. * Anxiety. When you are worried that a flubbed project could drive your team's work to Bangalore, India (or from Bangalore to Karachi Â… or wherever), it is easy to fall into eyeballing every step. "Micro-management is a symptom of thinking things are out of control," adds consultant Don Maruska, author of How Great Decisions Get Made . Say that a project manager who doesn't fear possible job loss is delusional bordering on Pollyanna and you may be right, meaning that, in many cases, the building blocks for micro-management have a foundation in reality. But that does not make it a good thing, particularly not when it is exhaustively documented that a micro-manager sucks the enthusiasm out a project team (Who wants to give his/her all when the boss redoes everything anyway?). Even worse. A classic symptom of the micro-manager is that he cannot get his own work done, says organizational consultant Simma Lieberman. So busy supervising the work of others, the micro-manager frequently finds his own to-do list gets ignored. And that is no way to win job security. Taking the Cure It isn't easy to break the cycle of micro-management but it can happen. Step one, says Maruska, is to make a conscious effort to transition from always being the doer into being a manager of others. Focus on getting there and it will gradually come to be. Step two, and maybe a still harder step, says Louellen Essex, co-author of Manager's Desktop Consultant: Just-in-Time Solutions to the Top People Problems That Keep You Up at Night , is to dialog with team members. Ask them: do they feel micro-managed? What kind of supervision and leadership do they want? Of course, they won't immediately open up with honesty so keep prodding. Show sincerity: "I cannot properly manage this project without your input about what you want from a leader." Little by little, team members will spill about how much (or how little) direction they genuinely want from you. A tricky bit is that some team members want a lot of oversight, some want little or none, so for the manager part of the job is knowing who needs how much hand-holding. The last step: don't focus on process, focus on outcomes and results. Inveterate micro-managers stay hung up on process, but the managers who succeed know that, at project's end, all the high-level bosses in the organization care about is what was accomplished. Period. "The outcome is what really matters," stresses Essex. Just keep that in mind and, poof, micro-management proclivities just may evaporate. Author: Robert McGarvey>>

I terminated my employment. The company I went to afterwards were EVICTED from their office space. Yes, the sherrif came!I know they may all give me bad references and I am not sure if that will affect me getting the job. I really want this I have just been with the wrong companies and I want to find a place I can stick to. Is there anything to worry about?Am I not going to get the Job, I did explain all of this to them at the interview?!Also, I am $1,900 in debt will that affect me getting the job? Please answer me.Thank You I have plenty of other people as references but, the boss at the property management company is just not a great person and he did not want me to ever leave that job. I still live at the property and everytime someone who had my job leaves (and there were a lot of people) he always wants me to come back and work for hima and I say no! I just think he just wanted me to work there and that's it and every opportunity he has he tries to hook me again as if I don't remember how it was to work for him!
citi to allow jobless to pay less on loans..do you guys think this is a good or bad idea? citi to allow jobless to pay less on loans..do you guys think this is a good or bad idea? taking a poll for my management class wanted to know what or how you guys feel. THIS IS THE ARTICLE I FOUND IN THE WALLSTREET JOURNAL Citigroup Inc. announced Tuesday a new program aimed at addressing the latest challenge facing the mortgage industry: unemployed homeowners. Under the program, Citigroup will temporarily lower mortgage payments to an average of $500 a month for certain borrowers who have recently lost their jobs and are at least 60 days behind on their mortgage payments. Borrowers will be allowed to make the lower payments for three months. Citigroup will waive interest and penalties during this period. Tracking the Economy House May Tighten 'Cramdown' MeasureSortable Chart: First-Quarter LayoffsCitigroup's announcement comes days before the Obama administration is expected to announce guidelines for its massive loan-modification program, a cornerstone of its effort to fight the housing crisis. The bank's new initiative takes aim at one of the hardest groups of borrowers to assist: those who have seen their income fall sharply. "We expect that there will be thousands of people we can help," said Sanjiv Das, chief executive of CitiMortgage, who called rising unemployment "the single biggest issue facing mortgage servicers." Although the novel program will help just a small fraction of troubled borrowers, Mr. Das said he hopes it will be copied by others in the industry. To qualify for the program, borrowers must live in the home and have a mortgage that is owned and serviced by CitiMortgage. The program applies only to loans of $417,500 or lower. Citigroup holds 1.4 million mortgages on its books. It also services another four million loans for others, but those don't qualify for the program. Citigroup has received at least $45 billion in taxpayer funds, and the federal government is now poised to boost its stake in the company to as high as 36%. That has raised fears on Wall Street that the company will take steps that are politically, but not financially, helpful. In January, the New York bank bucked the rest of the industry and endorsed legislation that would allow bankruptcy-court judges to modify the terms of troubled mortgages. Citigroup executives have said that move, which could take a toll on the company's bottom line, was designed to win favor in Washington. Mr. Das said the federal government "had no role at all" in the company's latest loan-modification effort. The new program "was created by us, developed by us and is now being implemented by us," he said. "There was no pressure at all." The new initiative follows Citigroup's announcement in November that it would offer to modify the terms of as much as $20 billion of mortgages for borrowers who are current on their loan payments, but are at risk of falling behind. Citigroup declined to provide figures on the number of loans modified under that program, but a spokesman said the bank has been in contact with about 50,000 at-risk borrowers, has done "some workouts" and has "several thousand loans in the pipeline." The weakening economy is creating a new wave of troubled borrowers, many of whom are grappling with job losses or reduced hours. The unemployment rate climbed to 7.6% in January from 7.2% in December, according to the Labor Department. At Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, 20% to 30% of homeowners seeking assistance need help "because economic conditions have made them unable to pay their loans," said Michael van Zalingen, director of homeownership services. A year ago, "virtually all" the borrowers seeking to avoid foreclosure had subprime adjustable-rate mortgages and were facing interest-rate resets, he said. Many of those struggling because of the weakening economy have few options. Borrowers who have lost their jobs are the hardest to help, because "they don't have the income to make a payment anymore," Mr. van Zalingen said. Borrowers who qualify for the program typically spend an average of $1,500 a month on mortgage-related payments. The lower, $500-a-month payment was designed to make the mortgage a financially viable alternative to renting an apartment for borrowers struggling with temporary job loss, Mr. Das says. Average rents on a one-bedroom apartment range from $713 a month in the Southwest to $1,623 in the Northeast, according to real-estate research firm Reis Inc. To qualify for the program, borrowers have to provide proof of unemployment. They must also sign a form promising that they will look for a job and let Citigroup know if they've found one.

How to advance from decision support to executive management? How does one advance from a decision support job to an executive management position in either government or corporate? 24 year old needs advice on how to continue climbing the ladder at a quicker pace. Preferrably a 4 to 5 year time span. I don't want to work for 10 to 15 years to get to the executive level. Any strategies?
Is there a way to BS my way into an upper management or executive level job? I am 20 years old, and am pretty darn smart when it comes to business; I have owned 2 businesses and have a very professional looking resume. Do you know of any tips or tricks to get hired as upper management or as an executive? I am not into the "working my way to the top" style. I need a legal, not necessarily ethical approach to get nice high employment. Your help is greatly appreciated, please give me your best answer and I will give you the 10 points you deserve. The two busineses are a retail business, where I learned that my inventory came from shady sources, not illegal, just more risky. I still operate this business, sales are just not as high as I originally anticiapted. My second business is a catering business, for this I do no marketing other then word of mouth, and sales are small and seasonal. My resume is 100% legit, not lies. I am just looking for a higher and more stable income
what would i need to do to become a logistics management executive? Please tell me what type of college degree(s) i might need to get in order to land a job like this. i don't want to be a CEO but i would prefer to be one of the "big bosses".plus being a logistics management executive is what i want to do when i am much older(like 40). also could you tell me what company has a logistics program that would hire me. I know i am only 15 but i need to know so i can start planning ahead. Please tell me what classes i could take in high school to help me acheive this goal. i have researched this career. i also live in omaha nebraska if that helps any. i am a bright student with a 4.6 GPA. could you also explain what a logistics management executive might do (please tell me things that are beyond the obvious,(hint) give examples) .
Difficulty of getting a management job? How difficult is it to get a management job without a some kind of business degree? Or do you typically start at a different position and move your way up? I've heard of English/Journalism majors starting as consultants and getting as high as executive jobs in corporations. People tell me that many people don't use their undergraduate degree anyways. Can anybody share experiences?
Should I pursue a career in management/executive management? I have majored in science and love science, but I just don't know if I like the job itself. I feel like if I go into management I won't live up to my full potential as far as intelligence and smarts go but I feel like I would enjoy it more. I see myself someday as a CEO or something like that.. but there's always that nagging feeling that I'm not making a difference (as a scientist). Perhaps in the future I"ll have the power to blend them both?
What is the pay for a project management trainee in chennai? I'm an MBA -Finance and systems graduate, and ive got a job offer for the post of project Management Executive trainee as i've no work experience as yet. I'd like to know what is the compensation paid for such a post in the industry in chennai city, and in what way would accepting this job impact my chances of getting into mainstream finance later.
Sales / Management Executive, and I still cannot get anyone to hire me, here in Los Angeles? I am a former Sales / Management Executive, with experience in the Dot.coms, Private Post Secondary Education Industry, Stock Photography & Entertainment business, with some District Retail Management experience, I had a professional look over my resume, and he said I should not make any changes....but... no one will hire me... I am a person who is a outside of the box thinker, innovator, and who takes ownership of tasks, and projects... I have interviewed with over 20 potential employers this month, and I get a run-around from every single one of them....one slipped and told me that the reason he wouldn't hire me, is that I "know too much.." That based upon the interview, he figured that I would be able to mainstream the company, and not only cost him his job, but cost others their job... I know it sounds weird, but I appreciated his honesty.. because I couldn't figure out the run around... Any suggestions, because my mortgage is due on the 26th.. (sorry for the rambling)
Should I put my Executive Director job on my resume? I was recently appointed as Executive Director of a division of my organization. My previous roles in the organization have been in project management and finance, and now I'm leading a human rights division. I have been in this job for a month, and I am actively looking for jobs because I jsut finished my MBA and want to get back into financial analysis or project management / procurement but in the private sector. Should I put this job on my resume?

What kind of job can I get with a degree in Administrative Management? I am currently thinking about pursuing a BA degree in Administrative management. I am under the impression that this is similar to Administrative Assistant job. I know it deals with office management and also some of the technical aspects of an executive secretary. What are some good careers for someone who hates the corporate environment but likes the income? I don't want to have to hide my tattoos, wear the tie, answer to executives who are all on the verge of their 3rd stress-related stroke, or deal with the usual monotony of it all. I have a degree from a great college, have worked higher level (executive) jobs in sales and manufacturing management. I have been quite successful, but always hated going to work. Any ideas??? I'm drowning...
Does anyone know the difference between these office jobs? Ok so I was always confused on what I wanted to major in. I have come to 3 conclusions:An A.A. in Office Technology, An A.S. in Office Management and An A.A. in Executive Office Management. My question is does anyone know exactly what they do and which do you think would be the better choice. Thank You!!
What are the exact step by step job titles reached before becoming a CEO or top executive? What are the exact step by step job titles reached before becoming a CEO or top executive? I am an entry-level jobseeker with big but broad dreams. I still don't know what industry I want to go into & what I want to do, but --- I wanted to know the line of management or what exact positions did people go through job to job to finally reach their level. I want to know what positions to reach for to one day be a top executive. I am a huge fan of the youngest CEO of Gymboree, but his profile only broadly explains how he got to where he is. It is a very broad question & topic. Job examples & advices of how you got to where you are today would be great!
I would be thankful if somebody would correct my letter…. Please? Respected Sir, Thanks for the opportunity to work with your esteemed organization through offering me the job - Management executive. I would be thankful if I get a clarification from you before I join. I am presently employed and getting a salary of Rs.12,000 in my present work. This was informed during the telephonic interview conducted first and the personal interview. It was reconfirmed by you during the final clarification of my consent to join. And also I have quoted my expected salary of Rs.15, 000 to 20,000 during all my communication with you. Its surprise to me that you have sent the offering letter with the salary of what I am presently getting. The job needs a full time working person and relocation of stay. Hence It is not meaningful to me to get a job with relocation with the same salary and also I think It is not sufficient to a person having 5 years experience. Hence I would like to know weather there is any possibility of revising my salary. I hope you will send me a favorable reply.
What would you consider would be an incident of "ethical misconduct" if you were an Executive Assistant? I am also looking for news and/or articles that list or tell of events dealing with ethical misconduct and Executive Assistants/ Administrative Assistants? (I have reviewed The International Association of Administrative Professionals < http://www.iaap-hq.org >) And for clarification the job description for an Executive Assistant is: Performs administrative duties for executive management. Responsibilities may include screening calls, making travel and meeting arrangements, preparing reports and financial data, training and supervising other support staff, and customer relations. Requires strong computer and internet research skills. Also calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and vendors.

Hence I would like to know weather there is any possibility of revising my salary. I hope you will send me a favorable reply.
Looking around, how do you think the credit crunch has affected people? I was going through the drive thru at McDonalds today, and was served by a middle aged man and woman who spoke well, and just looked so out of place!, when the majority who work for McDonalds are young student types. They weren't McDonalds management either. They'd obviously been made redundant from their executive jobs and took anything rather than nothing.
Should the USA outsource the executive branch of the government? The majority of people haven't been satisfied with the executive branch of the government for a few decades. The leading candidates for 08 don't seem much different. Maybe we should consider outsourcing the presidency to a private management firm. At least the accountability might improve. Or perhaps, we should consider sending the job overseas and get it done cheaper.
What would you say is good take home pay for a marketing executive / head of marketing in west midlands? I have worked for the same IT company for 8 years. I have has two salary raises of £50 per month and £100 per month. I am the marketing department in that I have to do everything, events, marketing plans, pr, funding, networking, go up and down the country and so on. I take home £1300 a month after deductions. My appraisal is coming up but if the sales team salaries are not risen, then the chance of them getting sales from following my campaigns are low. I would move if I could...but they are likely to say if I don't like it, go..I would just like to be paid something close to what the job actually is. not what management think it is....so - any advice?

so basically your saying I'm going to college to get a job I might like. you graduate then what? What did you do after you graduated? This super sucks... you spend all this time in college then they spit you out with kind of an idea of what you want to do if you can get a job doing it. So 3 years and thousands of dollars later, I feel like someone forgot to tell me something... So once I graduate. Then what? Really what happens after graduation... I'm supposed to just get a job and thats the rest of my life... am I the only one who is not ok with that I want to work, right out of college I think I need sometime to travel or something everyone thinks I'm odd for not wanting to start making resumes and going right to work as a entry level management trainee or something. Part of me wants to join the military, the other part of me just wants to sit on my butt for a few years.... I eventually do want my high paying executive job but I want to have fun and do interesting things before days in the board room... so what did you do when you graduated?

Why do you want to leave your current job/employer? I need a little help formulating the best answer to this question. Reality is I'm unhappy. The company has long underperformed in the stock market. I am looking for a company with greater chance for financial success. 60 percent of the workforce I manage today is in India, that number increases day-by-day. I think that by changing industries, I may have a more secure future - I don't think that reason flies. I plan to avoid the question by merely stating that I am seeking a company that provides me with greater executive/management opportunities. Trouble is that I know I have those opportunities with my current employer. I'm just sick of the constant cuts in workforce, the bleeding to off-shore and the low performing stock.

Why are blue-collar jobs like that of a worker lower-paying compared to white-collar jobs like a manager? On the face of it, a construction worker works much harder than a manager who sits in an air-conditioned room. Why then does our society has this norm that executive/management posts are higher paying compared to posts like a clerk or a worker? Is this fair? After reading the first 4 answers, I wish to add that does it mean that the world pays on the basis of "demand and supply" and not on the basis of "absolute amount of hard work done"? Why does a worker who spends whole day sweating in bright Sun not have the right to sit in a bar and sip a beer?
Do outside sales/inside sales jobs prefer no experience or is there a trick that I dont get? I've been applying to inside outside sales jobs(account executive and manager) and doing pretty good in the interviews but getting very few offers. Keep in mind these are entry level positions requiring 1-3 years of experience. I'm a recent grad from college and have had much more part time experience than any of my friends while in school. These jobs came with much greater responsibilities as well. So basically I dont know if theres somthin on the resume that scares them away or what it is that makes these deals fall through. Most of my friends were able to land these jobs that require 1-5 years of experience with pretty much 0 expererience or at best it would be very unrelated to the job. Keep in mind most didn;t have an IN or a contact in there that would place them in the company. Any idea what im doing wrong or whats wrong on my resume? WHITEMAN in USA will not hire chinese because of race only? I interviewed for entry level audit associate, am chinese, speak perfect english, excellent grades, and plenty of extra-curricular activities in leadership positions. But, it was no surprise to me, that even though I did well in all my interviews, I did not get a call back for a second or third interview. The reason is "I am not White". Now people say that it does not happen anymore. It may not happen to labor type jobs, but it does still occur in management and "executive" type jobs, which this position is, since you have direct contact with clients in representing the "Firm". I don't subscribe to affirmative action, my method to deal with white racisism is to beat the crap out of whitie. I just landed a job with an international CPA firm, I don't see any "whitie american" domination in this firm, so that is how I can make it, recognize the whitieboy, and go somewhere else. I am not going to let whiteboy ruin my goals in life. This "I am not a racist" rant by whitieboy is lie.
President having the "movie star" qualities and/or the "business-management" skills? I am in US Government and we are talking about Forrest McDonald and his views on Presidency. He views the president as 2 different types of people or having 2 different jobs 1. Chief Executive: attention to details, arm-twisting, negotiating, better to be FEARED than loved, business-management type skills. 2. Head of State: presence, communication to millions, embodiment of national values and aspirations, movie-star type skills, the type that is LOVED. It's very hard to to be excellent at both positions. My essay question is to write about how difficult it is for ONE man to be both 1 and 2. by ruling by fear and being loved. By being a movie-star but still know how to get down to business. For example (my teacher gave these): NIxon, LBJ, and Hoover were great at 1, but poor at 2 Kennedy, Clinton, and T.Roosevelt were great at 2, poor at 1. Reagan: great at 1, ok at 2 George W: okay to poor at 1, awful at 2. If someone could help me on this essay that would be FANTASTIC!! thanks so much :]] "hihihih" thanks for not answering my question.. i dont want ur views of obama, although i am a supporter.
Would you hire and unemployed executive in a menial job? Yesterday I wrote a question about a friend of mine who is over 50 broke and unemployed. He used to be a business executive but was fired from his last job almost 8 years ago and has been unemployed since. He used home equity, credit cards and savings to cover his bills but now he has no more access to money. Many of the people who responded said he should try for a lower level job. That sounded good in theory but it has not worked for him because he is older and carries him self like senior management. He would not fit in with the younger and immigrant workers at the job so he is not hired. He also has no professional references to check because he has been unemployed for so long. He does not have the money to start his own business and has struck out at temp agencies because he has no employment references. Any advice for my friend?
What's are the best job sites to post a resume to? My dad is looking for a job. His expertise is in sales and management. He has been a regional sales executive for Sara Lee and has also owned and operated his own distributing company. He has excellent people skills.
Does a Human Resources Management Certification make sense? I want to venture into Human Resources management. I have been an Office Manager and Senior Executive Assistant for over 14 years, having done tons of interviewing, recruiting and benefits dispersal during that time. I have a few college credits, no more than that. And they're all from 1986-7. Because my husband and I are considering a move to Irvine, CA, I am concerned about entering a new job market without a current certification to put on my resume. I have spoken to several colleges - online and off-line, as well as recruiters at about 12 agencies. And, after all that research I realize the advice was split about 40-60 between pursuing a Bachelors in Human Resources and pursuing Certification in Human Resources Management. I am open to either, though would really prefer the Certification - far more specific. Does anyone know which would be better out in the workforce? Thank you so much for your time. I think it is very kind of you to bother. I am at onesmartcookie77@yahoo.com

I have an important job interview, but I have a cold, what do I do? Do I reschedule. Do I bring it up beforehand and give the interviewer the option to reschedule? Do I show up and do my best to disguise it? In a situation where making a connection is absolutely key, what steps do you take if you have a cold the day before an interview? If it matters: The position is on the upper side of middle-management, one step below the executive level in the retail sector. This is the sixth and last interview before I expect to receive a job offer.
